Weirder than that, but maybe not in the ways you think.

Hey folks, it's Jen. I need your help to save my sister.

These are outrageous times, and I find myself writing these words:

Please donate and spread the word, to help my sister fight FEDERAL charges...for vandalism. Of a Tesla dealership. No joke.

There are some topics where I disagree with the conventional wisdom. I think I’m right but I’m open to the possibility I might be wrong. However I’m tired of handling bad supporting arguments. I want to hear good ones.

Any time I hear about the importance and inevitability of AI in business I think about those few years when everyone was certain that zeppelins were the future of air travel.

If you usually wonder whether a picture was created by AI,

If you often analyze whether a claim or suggestion is practical,

If you habitually consider who benefits from something,

Please continue doing those things when a post includes a person using a mobility aid.

Delightful new Kpop MV released today, SHINee "Poet | Artist"

In computer science in the 1990s we called that symbol in the middle of the title a pipe, but what's it called in typography?

I love thinking about taxonomy problems.

Further, understanding some of the pitfalls of taxonomy gives me useful perspectives on current news issues. Who counts as an immigrant? It's complicated. Who qualifies for an aid program? It's complicated.

I really appreciate the way @mercoglianos.bsky.social gives context to current events. He gives enough history and breadth to make news make sense, but he does it casually so it doesn't feel like a forced fact-filled flashback.

The hope chest my grandpa made has me thinking about product safety. It's shaped like an old-fashioned toy chest where the top swings open on hinges.

Child-me was warned to be careful opening and closing it because it could slam and hurt my fingers.

Popehat nods to my beloved Dwarf Fortress
/4 Anyway, sincerely, part of me enjoys really really complicated games that are somewhat stressful to figure out. Like the EU series, or Dwarf Fortress. It’s weird. It’s one of those gamer disorders like “I am paralyzed by indecision of what build to use for this character”

You've heard of apocryphal Spiders George who taught everyone about statistical outliers? Meet real Snakes Tim helping to rescue people from venom. I am astounded he's not from Florida.

And on a day I can't take a step forward I can work at staying in place instead of losing ground.

And if I lose ground, eh, some days go like that and maybe tomorrow I can take a small step forward.

The international food safety standards, ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 are third-party verified systems that guarantee food safety. Look for companies who are certified.
I hope some data nerd sets up a crowd source database of "food companies whose products don't make people sick."
Because we are all we have now.

The next time I sprain an ankle, I want to open doors with a button instead of holding them open with a crutch while I crutch through them.
If you won't make the world accessible to those currently disabled today, at least do it for your future self. Be as selfish as you like, say: "When I'm 80, I want to be able to get a coffee and pastry down the street, all by myself."
"Ability is, more or less, a temporary state. Each of us comes into the world helpless, and we leave it helpless.... It could happen to you tomorrow. If we make it so, life can be a broad path. There is room for all of us."

Taemin's performance of "Heaven" during his Ephemeral Gaze tour is amazing and portentous. This is a good thread.

#Taemin #Kpop
#Taemin's Heaven is an emotionally gripping breathtaking performance. The paradoxical imagery enhances its impact & deepens its emotional resonance:
while he sings "Showing you Heaven/Taking you to Heaven/Save you", the visuals starkly contrast his words, immersing us in haunting depictions of Hell+
