Today I bought a Dutch YA trilogy that was foundational to me as a speculative fiction reader.
Strangely enough, these books are identical to the ones I borrowed from the library about 35 years ago.

I see there's some discourse on whether one should read classic SF novels or not and the role of a canon in the genre.
Let me dust off my historian hat for a moment and state that establishing a canon, regardless of the medium or genre, is inherently a destructive act.

Using too many words to tell your story is like Star Trek: the Motion Picture's gratuitous use of panning shots over miniatures. They might be pretty, but they don't add anything to the story and just make the whole thing a slog.

About 10 minutes ago Trump landed at Schiphol airport. Which means he's now in the same country I'm in. I feel the urge to just stay shower until he leaves the Netherlands again. The idea of him being in the same country as me is just gross.

Man, 2025 is turning out to be a stellar year for AA-games. I dusted off my X-Box Series X for Avowed and didn't regret a moment of it. While I still have to complete it I enjoyed my time with Atomfall a lot. I'm currently delving into Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and am loving it so far.

Man, 2025 is turning out to be a stellar year for AA-games. I dusted off my X-Box Series X for Avowed and didn't regret a moment of it. While I still have to complete it I enjoyed my time with Atomfall a lot. I'm currently delving into Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and am loving it so far.
My favorite genres are:
5. Me and unlikely partner solve murders
4. Found family on a space ship
3. This Fantasy World we live in is pretty fucked up isn't it?
2. Epic stuff happens elsewhere and causes weird shit my life
1. We need to change the world to save the world!

My favorite series of JRPGs isn't Final Fantasy, or Dragon Quest but the Tales series.
Tales of Graces F got a remaster today and while it's not my favorite Tales game I did enjoy my time with it back in the day.
Just seeing the cheesy anime intro set to an even cheesier J-Pop song makes me happy.

One of the perks of going to the biannual membership meeting of the NCSF (the Dutch Science Fiction Society) is that the lead of our second hand book store attends as well and he brings along bunch of random books. So I bought these two books for next to nothing. #NCSF #ScienceFiction
