The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

spent last couple months binging "hood" movies from the 1990s and Menace II Society impressed the hell out of me. The nihilism and pointlessness of the violence and general lack of ambition of the main character made it a much more palpable than some of the more message-y hood films out there.

There is nothing in the indictment to indicate this had anything to do with anyone’s gambling debts. Clase helped two bettors make lots of money off his fraudulent pitches for 2-plus years, then he began demanding a cut in April/May ‘25 and it quickly unraveled from there.

That Ortiz and Clase reportedly received the EXACT same dollar amount from fixers — in 2025! — as Shoeless Joe Jackson and Lefty Williams did in 1919 is … completely absurd. And another reason why player salaries have very little to do with why these gambling scandals happen.
