Superstar: a cute little pop song on MDNA. It’s not anything groundbreaking but if I could whittle down the 16 original tracks on this album to, say, 10-12, I’d keep this one.

Give Me All Your Lovin’: I don’t hate this MDNA song but I didn’t think it was a good first single. The featured artists are a little too “please like me!” for a legend like Madonna. I get the participatory nature of the song—the cheer and easy sing a long lyrics. Chasing the crowd not leading it

Was discussing some Dickensian description in A Tale of Two Cities with students: “sunken cheek…cadaverous…emaciated…”. Nothing but blank faces. Tried identifying similar words to see if that helped. Learned they don’t know what a cadaver is. Blanks.

Turn Up the Radio: I really enjoy this song. Some good remixes were also released for it. Good driving song. Madonna is having fun again and I’d rather have this as the first single than what she actually released.

I’m Addicted: this is one of those tracks on MDNA that harkens back to other recent albums. This would sound at home on American Life (musically, maybe not lyrically) or Music. Perfectly serviceable filler track.

Gang Bang: I have a feeling some might find this track from MDNA a little cringe or trying too hard to be provocative (she loves that word btw)…but I love this song. Even the terrible “…die bitch!” And similar lyrics.

Voices: the last official track on Hard Candy and most of the time I can’t even get past the first two lines. There’s a bonus track to cover and going forward, since I have the deluxe version of the last few albums, I’ll do those songs too as I do like many of them on the next albums.

Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You: I mean obviously I never really make it through this album or seek it out. This sounds like a song I could probably stand if I was in a busy coffee shop focusing on a project or a book and it was in the background and I’d maybe pause and go wait do I know this song?

Last nights Spooky viewing was It: Welcome to Derry. I’m a HUGE fan of King, that book in particular and both the old mini series and recent update. I have a lot of questions about episode one, but I’m going to stick with it to see where it goes. Tonight—gonna watch Monster Squad

Beat Goes On: Kanye 😒 I think I’ve probably listened to this song once and was immediately like nope. And not only because of him—I was never a fan. Even just revisiting this last half of Hard Candy is blah.

Ok back to Madonna! Incredible: the last song I really enjoy in Hard Candy. Those four songs—that’s it. I really did think that she lost me with this one and I’d never much felt that way in any prior album. Seeing the tour in Philly with @nardo.bsky.social was helpful in keeping the faith!

When they announced it would be a dance off, I knew I’d clean up into the finals (that and the middle aged white women—so everyone—LOVED me). Ultimately lost to the girl Johnny who came with a large group so she got more cheers to determine the winner.
