It’s a rum old state of affairs when my wife is at liberty not to disclose her marital status, but my five-year-old daughter is not.

Still can’t get over yesterday. Listened back to the commentary on the train home, repeatedly watched highlights today and now Regan on MOTD. Easily the best day since 28/5/23. #CUFC

you can't get just how lunatic and hateful UK media has been on this without knowing this. it is *astonishing* in both volume and spite.
"In 2012, 60 trans-related articles were published by Britain’s media. By 2022, it was more than 7,500, according to figures from Trans Media Watch. The media is not responding to public rage against vulnerable minorities; it is helping to create it." www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/709...

Sir Walter Russell painted dozens of portraits as good as 'Cordelia,' (1928) but unless you happen to search for his name you are unlikely to come across how well regarded he was as a portrait painter or the work he made. Time often proves unforgiving to many artists.

@nigetassell.bsky.social first time outscoring both contestants in Clash of the Commentators this week, thanks in part to Mirandinha (memorable to me, in part, because I saw him score his solitary international goal).

For anyone now looking for alternatives to WeTransfer (cos of price and AI badness), we are currently using Smash.
Strong GDPR adherence, has a carbon emissions plan, good free transfers offer and good value plans.
Screen organisation here. We've stopped using it because they've inflated their prices to ridiculous levels. We've been testing Smash. Faster and cheaper. Does have a limited free model but the pricing is good.

By the time you’ve reached your forties you will have lived to see the newspapers that insisted that the country you grew up in was on the verge of social collapse portray those very same years of your youth as a period of blissful social cohesion.

Crowded pub in Stratford-upon-Avon. From opposite sides of the bar, Susannah York and I approach a spot where only one of us can pass by. She signals for me to proceed. “Cheers,” I say.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

For years, I was under the impression that Daphne’s brother was the worst English character ever to darken American TV. Now I’m catching up with late-period ‘24’ and… oh my.

As music editor of said magazine, I was in regular correspondence with arguably the best-monikered tribute band: The Mangledwurzels.
Bloody hell. I was editor of a West Country listings mag for years and never came up with this. Would have commissioned a piece just to use the headline.
Looking at writing a good review of The Wurzels so I can lead on the headline 'Smashing Bumpkins'

Very sad to learn Michael Hurley died last month. 60+ years of turning out beauty - not just the songs on countless albums, but the wonderful cover art that accompanied them. A DIY artist decades before the term existed; a proper one of a kind. RIP.
