Happy to be featured on the latest Niab Landmark. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share our work in precision breeding and how it’s shaping the future of crops. 🌱
The Autumn 2025 edition of Niab Landmark is out now!

This issue discusses the role of gene editing and precision breeding in addressing agricultural challenges, enhancing food production, and modernising regulatory frameworks in the UK and much more!

Not sure if I agree with (the feasibility of) everything, but very compelling points were raised.

New pre-print from the team!

The manuscript is @emma-raven.bsky.social's PhD work showing that whether a leaf is a carbon sink or a carbon source influences how they execute immune responses.

Have a read!

The lack of proper authorship acknowledgement is an important issue. Initiatives like those proposed in the Science article can help. I recently participated in the UKRIO workshop that set up the guidelines they’re soon launching - its worth checking out: ukrio.org/news/registr...

Had an inspiring day at #XAIB2024 at the Wellcome Genome Campus, exploring the transformative role of AI in human health and genomics. Would have loved to see more insights on how these approaches can also advance knowledge in plant biology.

If you are teaching Genetics right now, I highly recommend incorporating a day on eugenics and scientific racism. 🧬🧪

Not only is it very relevant to the news (👀), it was very impactful for my students last semester.

Today's Data Insight is written by my colleague @bastianherre.bsky.social.

Many young people are not making use of their right to vote.

This year, there are almost 100 elections worldwide. I'd love to see more young people get out to vote and contribute to political change.
Young people are less likely to vote than older people — often considerably so
In many countries, there are large differences in voter turnout between young and older people. The chart shows the data for recent national elections in four countries.

Happy to see this work out! 🥳
Here we created hap3H mutants in rice and showed they have more tillers, panicles and higher ETR and PhiPSII when grown in field. We develop an AI tool to quantify chloroplasts in BS cells, and showed that loss of Oshap3H increased chloroplast occupancy in those cells.
