I’ve been writing Haiku for a year now, but still consider myself to be a novice in that regard. You can imagine then that I am over the moon to have two of my #haiku published by British Haiku Society, first in the autumn edition of Blithe Spirit and also in an anthology on the theme of hope.

I captured a Speckled Wood butterfly on our our Pyrocantha bush. It’s as though they were made for each other.

This is the story of a buried treasure trove of collective memory, a place called Doggerland, with a meaning and resonance for us today, in our age of anxiety and man made climate breakdown, a metaphor for loss and perhaps hope.

One of my favourite views and a haiku in these dark times:

menacing skies / tranquil sea / a thin line of hope

In spite of everything there’s always snowdrops 🙏

out of the dead earth
a carpet of snowdrops
dancing maidens

snowdrops surging
signalling spring
serendipity

Inauguration Haiku:

“Two crows feeding
In the liminal space,
Harbingers of doom”

Crows have long been seen in folklore as heralds of doom and devastation.

Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

‘Waiting for the Dinosaurs’. Very low tide at Eastbourne, looking like a prehistoric landscape.

Word of the Day is ‘uhtcearu’ [ucht-kay-aru, with the 'ch' as in the Scottish ‘loch']:

Old English for ‘the sorrow before dawn', when you lie awake in the darkness and worries crowd your mind.

Another day, another sunset in St Leonards. Taken last Friday, before the storms.

I don’t just mourn for Jimmy Carter. I grieve for an America that at least claimed to value truth over tricks, bravery over bravado, conscience over conflict.

RIP JC, and all you stood for..
Archibald: Mourn Jimmy Carter, and grieve for America, too
That man lived with a depth and breadth today’s politicians will never match.

The lovely Plymbridge woods near Plymouth. During the spring, during the breeding season, Peregrine falcons can be seen nesting on the quarry face.
