I think I'll try to post poetry here. Weekly.
My favorite part of this list is that sleater Kinney beat out Red Hot Chili Poopers
@billboard.com magazine’s TOP 50 ROCK BANDS OF ALL TIME or “SOMETHING ELSE FOR THE COUNTRY TO FIGHT ABOUT." Sound off!

The Philly Special boys read my email in the mailbag. Give a listen if you aren't too mad at Keely Ringo.
New Philly Special! State of the Eagles after the mini-bye with @zberm.bsky.social , plus mailbag with @daboulciff.bsky.social.

ZB also gives the 1st-person account of his interaction with the Eagles fan in handcuffs (wrongfully accused!) who loves his work.

Remember that time we sat in our balcony seats?
Applauding an encore, enjoying it all.
Then- suddenly- we were crying.

Whatever that was, thank you.

Are you supposed to LEARN to dance?

I always thought you just instinctively felt it.

Is there a wrong way to do it?

Standing Up

At 10 months, we practice standing.

Building strength, courage, and desire.

Wholeheartedly-- it is a win.

Standing up.

Now, years later, I want to celebrate those that stand up.

Can everyone in this multicultural global community quit correcting people for pronouncing words differently?

Language is a tool for communication. If you understand what someone is saying, the pronunciation is irrelevant.

When the meaning of it all
Seems to fizzle at times,
I wonder.

Is this a game?
If so, who wins?

What muscle must we train,
As a team,
To defeat our opponent?

In each of my lives I've dreamed.
Dreams of heartbreak
beside the fantastic.

In each of my lives I've failed.
Lives full of wide eyes and deep breaths.

I've fallen in each,
Sometimes a skinned knee
Othertimes a gulp of sea water.

In each of my lives I've picked myself up.
And continued on.
James Harden has now lost a Game 7 with FOUR different teams 😳

A stroke

The word synonymous for the pat of a dog. As a hand runs down the soft black coat, a stroke, when comforting a pet, merges souls. The heavens they call with each pat of the head. A stroke while your dog sits on your lap, or while lying in bed, sharing a pillow- soft strokes on cozy eves.

When looking up any bereavement policy,
It won't say that at low tide, you need to walk further out.
The waves will seem larger than they are, walk past them all.

The policy may not tell you how long you should lay on your back, ears submerged. The blue sky meets the dark ocean. Roll along.

The main point of air conditioning
Could be the squeeze
You get from your chilly child
On a Sunday train ride.

It was invented for this:
Dads feeling disconnected
From the small humans
That used to crave them.

The baby likes bacon
Of course of course.

His tiny greased palm
Grips the strip
As a grizzly does a cod.

But his eyes, his eyes;
They carry the look
Seen in rickety opium dens
And homestretches at the racetrack.

The baby likes bacon
At sundown on Tuesday.

I threw out a plant.
It had slowly withered
Atop my dresser.

I watched leaves
Flop, fall, and then
Suddenly combust!

The flames turned to smoke.
Forming letters from the gray fumes.

Each symbol whisped into shape
Above the ashen leaf briefly reading:

Everything you touch dies.

Then... gone.

How does the cold water
Turn warm through
Spending more time
Submerged in it?

As the naturalist reminds me
All these things return to dust.
It's tough to hear, a tad bit sour,
The meaninglessness of all this fuss.

And then, in key, some timely news,
The clouds ahead they seem less wary,
As my partner texts the news,
"The baby, he likes strawberries."

When you grow up,
Tour the world,
Fall in love,
& Post photos of an
Engagement ring shining.

I think of the time
We discussed dinosaurs
As I watched you chase chickens in a stained sundress.

Then and now.
Two moments
Along a string
Fluttering in the wind
Tied to an orange kite.

Congratulations

OBEX: Albert Birney (Strawberry Mansion) directs, co-writes, and stars in a black-and-white video game flick that sucks us into a 1980s fantasy RPG. The concept is simple: a man must rescue his dog from inside the immersive game “Obex.” What follows is silly, scrappy, but earnestly sweet. #Sundance

Though he’s an inventive and original stylist, Albert Birney’s supreme gift as a filmmaker so far is his sense of innocence. Read Chuck Bowen's #Sundance review of OBEX.

Good and loving and smart and honest people exist. There are a lot of them. More than the bad and cruel and dumb and mendacious.

They're not perfect, they just care for others, even strangers. Not always actively, but as a default.

Find them, celebrate them, commune with them. You are not alone

Year 12

Back at work.
Empty classroom
Empty vessel
Fill it with chocolate
Fill it with gravel
Fill it up with kerosene
And launch it into the sea.
The flaming arrow
Lands wide right
And it just floats on
Like a giant peach.

I wrote this poem w my 9 yr old son. We were flying across the Bible Belt. Preparing to cross the Pacific.

Pacified by the full hearts of our family.
