He was a straggler after all the others flew off
He eventually also flew off to make sure I wouldn't get too close
He's walking by one of the habitat piles in my backyard.

This is a male house finch drinking water from one of the ant moats (that keep ants out of our hummingbird feeders)
Being winter, there really aren't ants
Yet, we still put water in the moats because the small birds like it
Experts say the color of the male house finch depends on the color of the ant moat he drinks from. Also, this is not Peter, for those of you who know Peter.

This is a picture I took yesterday afternoon of a male Anna's hummingbird flying in my backyard
It was kind of cloudy, which made the lighting kind of soft, like not harsh, like it usually is here
Maybe that's why it looks fake
