Where are the great reckonings with Dwan’s minstrel shows in I Dream of Jeannie and Sweethearts on Parade? I think the dossier does a fine job, but I think the world could do with a deeper interrogation of these films

how does one tell if their short film is good. I vary on all of my work (as I assume most people do?) I know I’ll only get better, at least. took a jump with one into something completely foreign to me with analogue film and did away with all words/music 🤷

last nights 1990 ‘White Hunter, Black Heart’ with this mornings 1966 ‘Our Trip to Africa’. I think that some brave programmer should do what needs to be done and finally put eastwoood in the a-g screenings he belongs in.

just watched Disco Boy (2024). bites off more than it can chew but I’ll gladly take an edgelord beau travail over whatever grief-as-character arthouse bullshit a24 is putting out these days. would I rather watch Beau Travail? sure. but I’d rather watch Beau Travail than 99.99% of movies.
