While people struggle to afford groceries, make rent, or find a doctor this government is spending billions of tax dollars to enrich corporations.

It's time for a government that puts people over the profits of billionaires.

You don’t have to be a “cyclist” to support safe bike infrastructure in your city. You don’t have to ride bikes at all. You just have to understand the FACT that bike infrastructure makes getting around easier & safer for EVERYONE, saves us all public money, & makes cities generally more successful.

Did you know that a “kissing canopy” is when trees above a street or sidewalk grow to touch overhead, creating a cool, shaded place? Despite it being colder and darker these days, let’s remember the beauty and value that #StreetTrees add to our cities, IF we design for them. #KissingCanopies

My current Hamilton Bike Share (locally called SoBi) stats. Bike share is not all of my bike trips, but it does make up a good amount of them, simply because it is so convenient and I’m exceptionally bad at doing maintenance on my own bikes.

I’m hoping to break 10,000 km total next year!

Tire microplastics are bad enough, but research shows very troubling consequences when these microplastics interact with other forms of pollution.

One component, 6PPD, has been found to interact with ground level ozone, forming a toxin, 6PPDq, that kills fish.

I could only dream of the day where this type of infrastructure would even enter the realm of possibility here in Canada.

But that doesn’t mean I won’t stop working towards that future.
"The Hovenring is a futuristic suspended roundabout for cyclists and pedestrians, linking the Dutch cities of Eindhoven and Veldhoven. Hovering above a highway, this 1,000-tonne steel structure is supported by 24 cables attached to a towering 70-meter pylon."

It’s not just good transportation policy or economic policy. It’s also great health policy.
“A new cost-benefit study in New Zealand finds that investments in cycling and walking facilities outweigh the costs of building them by 10 to 1. The research found that the most important economic benefits were health gains from use of active transport.” ebikes-international.com/new-study-in...

I wish BlueSky had the option to ‘pin’ Starter Packs.

There’s so many good packs out there but I can’t handle following several thousand accounts.

“Build it and they will come”
#Bikeshare is booming in #Montreal —even though it's a winter city.

There were over 13 million BIXI bike trips in Montreal this year, up 15 percent.

(It helps when you don't tear out bike lanes. Looking at you, Doug Ford in #Ontario.)

True. But it's *also* a War on Bikes. (Both things can be true at once...)

“There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.”

I’d add infrastructure too, since I maintained paths are dangerous (especially when not separated).

I’ve biked year round to work (and other destinations) for over a decade now - rain, snow, hot, cold…
The Dutch have a saying: 'You are not made of sugar, you won't melt in the rain!'.

When you use a bicycle for practical purposes, the weather becomes less significant. Whether you commute to work on a bicycle, you do so both on sunny days and when it's raining.

Cyclists as a sacrifice to the gods of motoring

Absolutely bonkers.

It’s crazy to me that we let people drive these large vehicles with standard licenses and insurance.

I dare say most people can’t handle this size of vehicle. And they should be heavily restricted, require upgraded licensing, and carry higher insurance premiums.

The choice to bike is not determined by the shoes you wear at work, or if there’s a shower there, or if you care about climate - it’s our tolerance for fear, and whether that risk-tolerance is higher than the safety-level of the engineering and design of the bike lane:

In almost all my conversations with people about biking in the city, safety is by far and away the #1 reason people are hesitant.

Yes, it’s a bit of a chicken and egg scenario - you need people riding to justify the infrastructure, but people won’t ride unless the infrastructure is there.
Making your city bike-friendly has so many strategic advantages, not the least of which is positioning the city well against its economic competition. But it’s not just about quantity of bike infrastructure —it’s about QUALITY too. Read my @FastCompany.com article www.fastcompany.com/90361034/if-...
If only experienced cyclists feel safe in a bike lane, then is it a bike lane at all?
What is AAA or "Triple A" bike infrastructure? It stands for bike infrastructure that's not just safe, but comfortable, for "all ages and abilities."
