a bit about me:
Used to cook, now I grow; grew up in Appalachia, immigrated to Asturias, lived some other places too; I enjoy taking photographs, writing about food culture and history, listening to black metal, indexing recipes, and being a pedant; competent cider maker, champion cider drinker.
When it comes to compost, there are two kinds of people: those who don't have enough compost for their space and those who don't have space for all their compost.

Grammar and AI proofreading platforms are part of an epistemicide. They dictate how we think, what we say and how we conclude meaning. They tell us to break paragraphs that carry too much emotion. They whisper: ‘Too many ideas in one sentence.’

Volume measurements are almost never appropriate. It's the 21st century, get with the program.
1/3 A weighing scale in cooking is not only crucial for precision and reliability, but it also makes recipes more accessible to people all over the world. It’s extremely common outside the United States to use weighing scales (I grew up using a kitchen scale in India and didn’t use cup measures).

I don't store my data in your cloud, I don't use your SaaS application, I don't stream your music files, I don't buy your vendor-locked e-books, and I don't play your always-online games. It's that simple.

All of those things put me at the mercy of your shareholders, and I'm not that kind of boy.

Wheel of Time is sort of the ultimate property for a streaming tv play: nothing is ever resolved from book to book, so there's always a new season to go, and ultimately nothing is EVER resolved, so it doesn't matter when you cancel it. 😆

The word moreover exists solely as a weapon with which to attack grammar instructors who hold to the prescription that one must not begin a sentence with 'and'.

Frederic Athelwold Iremonger has, by far, the best name I have encountered in a while. Not only is it a perfect marriage of Prussian and Saxon strains, his last name conjures up someone who, like an ironmonger works metal, beats others into proper ire.

Things that I desperately need to have happen:

- an epub portable annotations standard
- WebDAV support in the Zotero android app.
- Moon+ Reader to read/write Zotero annotations

My dream of a seamless reading/annotating/referencing workflow demands it.

Absolutely the best food film recently. No surprise that it's based on a nonfiction book by a former zen monk taught cooking according to Dōgen's Tenzo Kyōkun -- Instructions to the Zen Cook.

2025 Goals around the place:
- finish off my backlog of unfinished 2024 projects.
- learn a bit about proper quickthorn hedges and see what I can do with all this blackthorn I seem to have.
- get the new field into proper shape to plant apples in a year.

What are yours?
