Man, I don’t know. Just saying stuff and trying to hang on. Meta advertising, content marketing, business ownership. Fatherhood and baseball.
For those who listen to podcasts, my latest Pubcast Shot is live. I grapple with Meta's latest controversial announcements, both from a personal and brand/advertiser perspective. It ain't easy.

Just 10 minutes of your time...
What Meta’s Latest Changes Mean for Advertisers
Recent controversial changes at Meta have raised questions about user exodus and advertiser response, but with limited alternatives and Meta's near-monopoly status,…

I'm so happy to have my podcast back. I had to abandon it during the past two and a half years once I committed to short-form video. Something had to go. But once I stopped publishing a video every day (scaled back to three per week), some time and mental space became available.

Someone who joined my email list in 2013 (possibly earlier), bought my first training course, and was a member of my private community from 2015 to 17 just signed up again. Being around this long, this is the stuff that makes me smile.

Not every business decision is driven by greed...

For the past year and a half, I've had a chatbot on my website that is strategically trained on specific content to make it most helpful. In the beginning, it was cool and novel, but flawed. With time, it's gotten better and better.

Social media has become a mostly awful place. There are exceptions for when it's amazing, but do the overall positives outweigh the negatives? I'm using it less and less, and I'm not convinced that the different platforms matter all that much.

It wasn't always like this, but not sure how to fix it.

My favorite social media comment is "check your dm." Whenever I see it, I immediately stop what I'm doing and check my dms.

I have a story about click attribution related to Meta advertising conversion results. A small segment of you will find this interesting.

This is for you...

Looking back at some of the plans I had for this year, and I was out of my damn mind. It was way too much. Luckily, I never attempted to execute that madness.

Just because it's a plan or a goal doesn't mean you're committed to doing it. It might be a really dumb idea. Ditch it.

Wife: "I'm thinking it's a case of deeonite."

Me: "Huh?"

Wife: "I'm thinking it's a case of deeonite."

Me (trying to understand): "Sounds serious."

This charts the change in referrals to my website from AI (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude).

It doesn't replace the referral traffic lost by organic search, but it's a start. I've also heard that AI engine referral traffic tends to be higher quality, but I haven't proven that myself.

I'm here because I can't escape politics on Threads, despite muted keywords. I needed to take care of my mental health.

That's right, I couldn't escape politics on the app that supposedly suppresses politics so I left.

If you follow Meta's creative upload process and provide three versions (1:1, 9:16, and 1.91:1) when setting up your ad in Ads Manager, the assumption is that you are providing versions that are ideal for each of Meta's placement groups. But, you're not.

Take a look...

I'm fascinated by different social media behaviors. I'd love to see a study on ways people engage with social media content.

How likely is a person to comment on a post in their feed? What percentage do they comment on?

And do some people just post nothing but troll comments down their feed?

I couldn’t possibly be more annoyed with Meta support than I am right now. Every time I ask a question, they respond with something unrelated. I refuse to allow them to close the ticket. The torture never ends. Just once I want someone who will make an effort to help me.

I just recorded three videos and wore three different shirts and three different hats so that it seems like they were recorded on different days. No one will ever know the difference. Like magic.

I should have shaved a little bit after each video, but here we are. Maybe next time.

My favorite part about this place is that there isn't an algorithm that can start messing with my head, toying with my emotions, begging me to scroll and scroll and scroll. I just scroll the stuff I follow until I run out, then come back a few hours later.

Weird.

Remarketing with Meta ads is mostly unnecessary now since it happens naturally with algorithmic targeting (I’ve seen 25-45% of my budget when using Advantage+ Audience goes to remarketing).

But there are exceptions, and I use some of these.
3 Times You Should Prioritize Remarketing Over Meta's Algorithmic Ad Targeting
Remarketing is mostly unnecessary because it happens naturally using Meta's algorithmic targeting. There are exceptions when it makes sense.
