Green Cllr in Redhill on local + Surrey County Council. Friend of Furnistore, against Gatwick expansion. For a better future.
"The fog in the decision letter is thick but Gatwick can open its new runway and blame Government for not expanding local roads and railways, and demand permission anyway.

The Green Party now has 78,000 members.

Thats 10,000+ new members this month alone who want to draw the line.

I know there are so many more people who want to take a stand.

Commitment from Leader of Reigate+Banstead council leader last night to allocate £10 million reserves to rebuild Harlequin theatre.

Now need agreed 'concrete' plans + temporary 500 seat venue up & running in Redhill

So ensure this happens: not like promised funds to social housing 3 years ago.
Calling on Reigate and Banstead Council to finally commit to funding theatre repairs - after a packed meeting to Save The Harlequin by the Reigate and Redhill Society.

✂️ Brutal cuts to bus services over the last 20 years has disproportionately impacted those on the lowest incomes.

🌍 It's also had a big impact on the environment - cuts since 2011 has meant an estimated 750 million extra miles driven in 2023.

🚌 Investing in bus services must be a priority.

Would suggest at least 3 unitaries for Surrey. That would allow devolution of power, not centralisation of local councils.

But what area to elect a mayor (which the govt also requires)? Suggest a bigger area (eg Surrey, Sussexes & Brighton?) with a proportional assembly to properly hold to account?
Greater Guildford & Greater Redhill, with maybe a 3rd for the 3 northern London fringe districts? @jonathanessex.bsky.social will probably have a view (but I doubt he can share it in public...).

Major flooding around Lee Street / Westvale today, incl. overtopping of sewage from treatment works tanks, onto roads & up to people's homes.

I've spoken to Thames Water - they are on site & have asked that anyone impacted contacts them directly so their property can be logged:

Very busy session at Full Council last night: 1 petition, 2 motions, 4 public questions, 14 councillor questions..!

Green Councillors presented 2 motions - affordable housing, & falling water companies.

My motion calls on the gov. to protect the public against the collapse of Thames Water..

Last month Black Rock announced purchase of Global Infrastructure Partners, whose $170bn of assets includes Gatwick Airport.

How can we ensure that the decision on whether to expand Gatwick is not influenced by the Labour government's "close working relationship" with investors like Black Rock?

Outside Department of Transport offices calling for 'trains not planes'

Today government due to receive report from Planning Inspectorate on whether to expand Gatwick Airport.

Instead of airport growth should use Eurostar: still only at 40% capacity so could take 30 million more passengers/year.
