I've waffled on about purpose & burnout over on LinkedIn. I believe there's a link, that we can find purpose in any work if we want to. Even when work is 5 hours of standing out in the cold, wet and dark! And even if it wasn't in your plan - or you never had a plan!

When you get home from a late shift and explain to your cat that she doesn't get a third wet food today!

I shall be sleeping with one eye open tonight!

My 12 week run in the gym has come to an end after the penultimate PT session!

One pulled hamstring tendon (judging by where the pain is)

Rest, rest and no gym for at least a week. Have had to cancel this evening's work shift

Thank goodness an osteopath appointment already booked for this week!

Missy is confused. Is it finally Friday? It's been a long week!

(Even longer for me, as I'm working both weekend days)

Something I encourage people to do is to regularly spend time thinking about things that went well or that they're grateful for. In positive psychology it's called 'What Went Well' or 'Three Blessings'.

It's not toxic "positive vibes only" crap.

Blue sky on Bluesky!
September 13, 2025 at 11:08 AM
Today is a rare weekend of no events (the football is away)

Which coincidences with things I enjoy:

Local brewery has released a new stout!

It's the local art & music festival, including open studios and I LOVE looking at art

A friend is doing a BBQ at said festival, and they are an amazing chef

I rarely use Bluesky - except for watching the adventures of a particular kitty. I have struggled to really get into it.

A bit of a change for September. Life is life-ing, we'll see where this ends up...

It's exhausting being a kitty! #Caturday

How are you making time for self care this weekend?

Even 5 minutes just for you will make a difference, and start to build a habit or routine.

I'm resting ahead of an 8 hour shift. Eating plenty of veg and protein before the shift. Tomorrow will be a chilled out day to recover.

If you're not working - as I am - I wish you a weekend as relaxing as Missy has entered this weekend.

If you are working, I hope you manage to plan some rest time during the weekend, and definitely after.

Always love the @samaritans.bsky.social Brew Monday campaign at this time of year - reminding us of the small but mighty power that asking ‘shall we have a cuppa and chat?’ can have.

The only 'Blue Monday' article you'll ever need

It's #BlueMonday again. And this is all you'll ever need to read to know the 'truth' about it

Which is that it's a ridiculous marketing stunt that got way out of hand and impacted me more than most people

A reminder that while Blue Monday is a load of marketing BS, if you're feeling stressed, anxious or burnt out, there iL

I just read a comment on a post on LinkedIn about productivity. The comment reminded the readers that machinery have "scheduled maintenance breaks".

How would your approach to rest change if you thought of it as a scheduled maintenance break for your mind and body?

As the cat speeds up and down the corridor I find myself Googling "what's the difference between a canter and a gallop?"

Heading back to work today for the first time this year?

Pace yourself.

It doesn't all need to be done today.

Not everything that's being "circled back" to you is urgent - for you, anyway.

It's New Year's Eve, and it's just another day.

My LinkedIn feed is full of posts about amazing years that have been had, big goals for next year, and days off.

Just tried to flea treat our indoor cat - festive fun! Absolutely traumatic. At least I'm not going to get fleas for the next month!

One of my favourite Christmas traditions, scrolling through the hashtag on Christmas Eve. We rarely go away for Christmas now, so can't take part in the pictures
So, let's try doing #duvetknowitschristmas here this evening? People are literally Driving Home For Christmas right now, which MIGHT JUST mean that they'll be sleeping somewhere unusual. 1/

Today I met a dog in an Xmas jumper who thinks everyone is their new friend! 🥰

Lounging on the sofa, resting ahead of a busy December, watching the traffic and trains go by, I was reminded of a truth many of us need to learn to accept:

The world doesn't stop when we stop and rest.
