Kafka definitely knew how to craft an effective hook: ‘When Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from troubled dreams, he found himself changed into a monstrous cockroach.’ #metamorphosis #amreading

Very exciting: the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography published a cluster of new entries on women stationers. See the intro by Valerie Wayne: www.oxforddnb.com/newsitem/906...

ODNB entries are so helpful in identifying women from traces on printed material. So happy to see this work ❤️

Asking questions like this is problematic: framing the need to rectify systemic gender imbalance in #publishing as male loss - very manosphere.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a publisher in possession of a famous backlist must be in want of a special edition – even if it costs £925.

Mistakes were made in #earlymodern print shops. However, such #misprints, as they were called, rarely survived in our collections. Here you see a misprint from 1642 Germany. The image was printed upside down, and the proof-reader crossed the print to make sure this is not to be used. #bookhistory

Visited Derby Museums this afternoon to see the Joseph Wright ‘Life on Paper’ exhibition today. Really fascinating to see Wright’s line drawings that showcase his artistic brilliance from age 11. So much to see - will need to visit again before exhibition ends in September. Very much recommend it.

Excellent argument for tax-free arts prizes from Alice Grundy. It’s appalling that you don’t pay tax for a lottery win but you do for a literary prize.
