I recently completed a master's-level course where the materials frequently referenced learning styles. I also read a 2024 academic article that strongly recommended considering students' learning styles.

Why does the myth of learning styles persist?

An interesting study on
vocabulary learning for EFL learners found that tasks like composition writing and sentence rewording led to greater vocabulary gains, supporting the depth of processing theory.

I’ve been enjoying Teaching Second Language Academic Writing by Christine M. Tardy.

It’s interesting how we pick up some genres naturally, but academic writing requires explicit guidance to master its conventions.

A very informative and insightful webinar by The Bell Foundation about the many obstacles that late arrivals face. Also, many practical and actionable steps that schools can take to ensure these learners succeed.

Thank you!

This is how I see effective support for multilingual learners: not separate resources but layered scaffolding built around a core text or task.

Build support that adapts, connects and includes.

Direct & explicit instruction is highly effective for #multilingual learners- it provides clarity, structure and focused language input.

However, consider scaffolding, cultural references & balancing interaction to ensure it's truly impactful.
