BBC's Arabic radio service in Lebanon closed after 85 years as part of a £28.5m savings drive. 'Just months later, in October 2023, the Russian state-owned Sputnik news agency took over the frequency. Its news bulletin opened with “This is Moscow”, replacing the previous “This is London” intro.' 🙄

Thin, scared and not quite all there in the head. But his life has transformed.

Today he arrived in his new home in England… (1/8) 🧵

The Chancellor did not need to concentrate so much of her fiscal consolidation on welfare.

Extending the freeze in personal tax thresholds by just a single year would have saved almost as much (£3.9 billion in 2029-30) and would have been shared much more widely across 24 million households.

Today we repaired 14 hernias. Started on time, finished on time. Even stopped briefly for lunch. One operating theatre, no expensive technology.

Last list for a while as all extra sessions to reduce waiting lists have been stopped for now due to lack of money. #nhs #waitinglists

“[Patients have] been sleeping on the floor of the bathroom. They've been sleeping under a desk or out in communal areas- just because they're too afraid of the camera… that can relate to fears or trauma around surveillance”

2012-2022 saw a 65% increase in children admitted with mental health concerns.

There has been over 500% increase in admissions for CYP with eating disorders in the same time period.
