Gain of Fiction: How COVID Origins Motivated Defunding of U.S. Science

@ggronvall.bsky.social explains how in recent weeks, the Trump administration—including NIH Director Bhattacharya—has rationalized the defunding of scientific research by citing COVID-19's lab leak theory.

Here’s the thing about suggesting “cooking classes” as an alternative to insulin for diabetics.

It’s ignorant. It’s ableist. It’s eugenicist. We know all of this.

It’s also incredibly privileged.

It assumes that healthy eating is accessible to everyone & that not doing it is a choice 🧵

It's time for MEGA: let's make Europe great again! The Nazis & Operation Paperclip crippled European science & culture. Now the US is conducting its own purge. The EU should invest billions into academia, set up new programmes and research centres. Should have done this before Brexit already.

Finland wasn’t the only country to understand that strong defence requires a strong society.

But our current crop of politicians seem to have forgotten it.

Trumpin Amerikan meininki saadaan tännekin, jos oikeisto ei lakkaa uskomasta tyhmään paskapuheeseen.

In short time the science denial work will all be AI generated, and the volume will increase 10x. Or 100x. And will be preferentially amplified. And it will sound much more convincing, and real, to a lot of folks. And it'd be an absolute complete waste of your time to argue with. And you'd lose.
