none of the gotcha examples of "out-of-control scientific spending" bother me in the slightest. isn't science about finding shit out? "they spent a million dollars of taxpayer money to see if they could make mice sexier" okay, well, what was the answer? I want to know too

“awful people don’t deserve to be killed, but they don’t deserve to be praised, either” is apparently a thought too complex for the pundit mind

You are under no obligation to mourn the death of people who would’ve celebrated yours.

this.

it is our moral imperative to live our values. how we show up in times of crisis and need is the test of our lives.
I try to remember every day to be grateful for the many humans trying to be kind and do right in a world where it's only too clear this is not rewarded, at least not with money or power. i believe if we survive as a species it will be through that quiet magic.

thank you for coming to my big announcement that was planned for weeks and not thrown together at the last second to get ahead of speculation that my health is in decline. alabama (taking a huge huff of a mysterious gas like dennis hopper in blue velvet) is in charge of space

MRI was originally called NMRI (nuclear magnetic resonance imaging), but "nuclear" was dropped to avoid negative associations.

The mental health benefits of not knowing any history right now must be massive. Moving through your day with total equanimity. What happens next? Who knows? Maybe something good

This had begun to shift by 2015 — anti vaccine movement became increasingly right-coded after the responses to the Disneyland measles outbreak. Very intentionally so, as Robert F Kennedy Jr and others began to realize that they could exploit precisely this.

now its "we have to throw trans people under the bus to win!" but also "dont talk about us throwing trans people under the bus or we'll lose!"

this whole thing played out with immigration too of course. they didn't want to push back on gop fearmongering & instead insisted they would build the wall

"we had to throw gaza under the bus to win the election" would sound less insane if, after throwing gaza under the bus, they had won the election

inspiring and fun read on picking “the wrong” tool for the job. many great lessons for builders in this one
Just published the 3rd and final article about how I picked the "wrong tool" for the job by choosing Ruby & Tebako for installed software. 🤣

It's a bit more philosophical, but I hope it encourages people to try bad ideas and discover new solutions to problems. 🤠
