I've always had a weird little fantasy about neighborhood-level thermal stores, to collect everybody's heat waste via AC and redirect it back into all the medium-heat home activities like drying clothes or making water hot, but a whole city's even better I suppose.
Most people hear “heat pump” and think of small air-source units at home. But Germany is building one of the world’s largest heat pumps in Mannheim: a 162 MW river-source system using heat from the Rhine.

Big reminder that heat-pumps scale far beyond households — they can decarbonise whole cities.

I'd love to see Pete attempt to correctly don an astronaut's uniform, and then take a space walk to see how well he did.
When you draw a platoon leader like Hegseth, it’s your worst nightmare. You just ride it out until he’s gone and gets replaced by someone who isn’t a complete jackass. Only a fool like Trump would put one of them in charge of the entire defense department.

I keep seeing that servicemembers have the right to disobey unlawful or illegal orders, but what they in fact have is a duty and obligation to disobey unlawful orders.

Sedition isn't punishable by death, if you're talking about statutory law developed under the constitution of the united states. It might be if you're living on the royal demesne of a mad king, though.

It's been a banner year for the cult of nurgle already and we've not yet seen the full extent of their generosity
The CDC website now disseminates disinformation about vaccines, claiming erroneously that infant vaccines might cause autism, when we know conclusively that they do not. It is difficult to overstate just how dangerous this is. www.cdc.gov/vaccine-safe...

Thomas Massie to CNN on the Epstein files: "This vote is gonna be on your record for longer than Trump is gonna be president. And what are you gonna do in 2028 and 2030 when you're in a debate … and they say, 'How can we trust you? You covered up for a pedophile back in 2025.'"

I almost hate to contemplate after that particular thread..........can our journalists actually read?
Dear @washingtonpost.com, “VICTIM spent hours at my house with him,” does not jibe with your headline that he “didn’t participate.” 😒

If there's something dangerous about the combination of medication and guns, for the love of fuck, you don't remove the medication
rfk jr. is using the school shooting as an opportunity to push his crank plan to take away the safe & effective antidepressants and mood stabilizers millions of people like me depend on.

he’s targeting pregnant & pediatric indications first, as they are most vulnerable to exploitation w/ misinfo.
RFK Jr on the mass shooting in Minnesota: "We're launching studies on the potential contribution of some of the SSRI drugs and some of the other psychiatric drugs that might be contributing to violence."

Not too late, buddy, you can actually quit any time, and probably should if you're gonna be both an unreliable democrat and fuckin' mopey about it. Quit, have some beers, hang out, take up guitar or something, nobody on this planet is FORCING you to keep being a senator.
In an emotional excerpt from his new book, Sen. John Fetterman said he should have dropped out of his 2022 senatorial race while severely battling depression after his stroke.

This is the sort of thing the technology is actually good for, rather than the two main goals of the Big Dawgs of AI Research: making Computer God to tell them how to rule the universe and making Computer Slaves because boy it's tiresome how humans disagree with you and want money to do stuff.
then we are giving context. And the LLM goes to work to parse words that we don't think are words. And pulls context that we would never identify. And connects the SMILE with a bunch of physical properties we provide (and some 3D data on the protein) to build a predictive model.

Shockingly, some crime is done in an organized fashion... we have a name for that, turns out
And here I was, thinking it was just known as “breaking the law.”

You’re telling me there’s a *strategy* here? Golly, I’m such a rube.
By proceeding with the demolition of the White House East Wing before seeking approval from federal agencies for a new ballroom, President Donald Trump forced the issue. It's a strategy known as "stake-driving."

This is probably considerably more ambiguous than the appropriations... there are a lot of ways a guy can get shot to death without violating laws prohibiting murder, but there's only one way for the government to cut someone a check, and that's as a consequence of appropriations made by law.
'Some from the left criticized President Trump for the shooting. But it is not yet clear whether the killing violates a law prohibiting murder.'
New York Times reports that it is unclear whether having a federal agency accept money in excess of congressional appropriations "violates a law prohibiting federal agencies from accepting money in excess of congressional appropriations." I guess we'll never know!
