Even without the digital element, this pin is designed to be a functional guide to some of our most common trees! I really wanted to create something both beautiful and helpful for understanding nature. #SciArt

I hope you like it! 💚

They fly now?!

Several squids in the family Ommastrephidae are known as flying squids. They use their siphons to propel themselves out of the water like a squid rocket, then they glide through the air.

Oak treehoppers are out! Known for their endearing maternal care, mamas remain with their babies until they emerge as adults and eventually leave the oak branch where they were born.

Nautiluses, the other group of surviving cephalopods, could not be more different from their coleoid cousins.

They have their iconic external shells, but they also have 50+ cirri instead of 8-10 limbs and pinhole eyes. They also can live over 20 years, much longer than any other cephalopod.

Right now, there are plenty of Center-barred Sallows visiting the trap. I'm waiting for the other sallows to begin visiting me, though.

My vague, unprepared #InverteFest idea was 2 never-posted crabs of the day so here is #1!

Platychirograpsus spectabilis males grow huge "saber" claws on one (either left or right) hand.

i'm the guy who invented the spike traps that pop out of temple walls. i hate my job. every day my boss says "why haven't we killed any archeologists" and i say "they haven't invented that yet." they pay me in tomb juice. i hate tomb juice. honestly i might just start working on my big boulder idea

#InverteFest is officially here! Well, for me anyway. It begins at midnight your local time!

I'm so unprepared this season, I found out my camera battery is dead for good 5 minutes before midnight lmao. Enjoy this potato-quality beetle.

New hope for the Wood White in Wales! 🎉

One of the rarest butterflies in the UK appears to be recolonising Wales decades after the last population died out.

It has been recorded at four sites in Powys this summer - including a female laying eggs.

This is kind of silly, but this little fly is apparently so weird-looking that some folks thought it was AI-generated.

I promise you it's real! Here's some pictures of it doing a backflip when it escaped and showing me its butt being uncooperative.

A Common red soldier beetle (Rhagonycha fulva) apparently these are known here in the UK as hogweed bonking beetles which I've never heard before but is an amazing name!
