”Practice > scrimmage > game” is very helpful to me 👇🏽
Can you motivate students to complete homework if you don’t grade it? 🤔 Teacher @crystalfrommert.bsky.social says yes!
Here’s how she makes assignments meaningful *and* holds students accountable.

I’ve run student volunteers for the library (Ninjas!) pretty much every year. I usually get a very small crew of pretty dedicated kids.
This year, I have about a million volunteers, and they have SO.
MUCH.

HEP author Jonna Perrillo co-wrote an op-ed for @the74.bsky.social, which argues that we should "loosen the grip on standardization and let teachers recreate the sort of experiences with literature that once made us, and them, into readers."

Had a moment today that reflects societal failure but also institutions doing what they can to cope. A bit of a long 🧵. So: as you may know, I teach at the downtown YMCA. It‘s a lovely place up on the 3rd floor of Gaviidae Common, sadly underused since it opened a few minutes before COVID. 1/
