Poet, short story & mystery writer, dabbler in audio storytelling with too many pieces "almost done." Love walking, my dogs, my husband & family. If I say I'll "probably be there," I mean I'm staying home, in pjs, watching British TV.
I wish I could say I haven't posted in a while because I've been so busy writing. Editing, at least. Can't. But the amount of rewatching TV shows I've already seen has reached an astounding volume.

My garden is full of black swallowtails. My elderly dog was surprised by a female bluejay flying close over her head, and then, the bird perched nearby, they regarded one another with keen, gentle interest. And my flower garden is chaotic with color. These are things on which I focus on hard days.

One of those mornings you wake up feeling like things that weren't possible yesterday, last week, a month ago are more possible, doable, manageable than previously thought. 🙂

Hi. One of my poems is featured on today's edition of Poets on the Plains on High Plains Public Radio (NPR). Link in comments. Thanks for checking it out. 🧡

Been waiting about six or seven weeks for my alpha readers to get back to me on my most recent manuscript. Finally heard from one, almost finished, who loves it. 🧡 Picky line edits, cut 2000 words, but loves it. So far to go still, but that won't stop me beginning to draft the follow-up this week. 🙂

Making lists is therapeutic for me. Doing the things on the lists generally does not feel nearly as creative.

Man, being on the internet is fun today.

Spring roses fading, while summer flowers break loose.

If this week you posted a non-bigoted joke, a sweet little story, an effusively supportive review of a just-okay small press book, a wish for a better world, or a photo of a dog, a cat, a tree, a flower, a bird, or the sky--thanks. Big thanks. You made my week. #love

So far this week, I've received four notices/invitations to outdoor concerts in July and August, two of which are scheduled in the afternoon. Officially, NO, y'all. I mean, please. I can't even.

My irises are having a brilliant year, despite the storms.

Love flowers. Hate gardening. But, man, those colors.

I lay awake most of the night. Because, I fear, I've reached an age at which a couple of glasses of wine mean I will lie awake all night. I compensated myself with a sunrise walk, rife with birds and flowers and breezes, some kick-ass coffee, and no more socials after this for a while. Peace, y'all.

That feeling when you're over 50 and your doctor says "No more six months. See you next year." 😁❤️🎉

So, for the, like, three people who've been following the progress reports on my prose manuscript: It's done! Going to put a day into formatting, then it's off to alpha and beta readers by Monday. 🥳

Posted only once a week or thereabouts for the past month because I'm trying to get some serious writing done. The volume is what's serious, not the content, because the world is so deadly serious these days I don't think I could get out of bed if the writing was so serious. Wishing everyone well. 🦋

Heading north, the wind was cold. But signs of spring an everywhere.

As I tried to fall asleep last night, I had to talk myself down from obsessing about all the scary things happening in the world. Woke up in the middle of the night with a blinding tension headache. So, there's another thing I'm not good at, I guess. 😨

We're all getting older, y'all. I know this because I saw a photo of Rod Stewart that turned out to be a photo of Jon Bongiovi.

I was already pretty pleased to have work included in this anthology. Now I'm practically beaming. 😁

Finished the draft!
Started the proofreading.
Got bogged down in revising the middle 30 pages.
Middle 30 pages morphed into middle 100, 110 pages.
Hope to be back to "Finished the draft!" by the weekend.

Gene Hackman was capable of playing anybody, and with such emotional honesty it was sometimes breathtaking. The fact I'm seeing posts from so many other countries, in so many languages, shows how brilliant his performances really were.

My eyes don't see a fire in the fire place. So my body thinks I'm freezing--like teeth chattering freezing--despite it being 65 degrees warmer than it was two days ago.
