Design Director at Telltale.
Previously: BioWare (DAV, MEA & DAI), ZOS, Respawn (JFO), Motive (SWBFII), Big Huge Games (KoA:R). D&D addict.
I just came to a horrific realization...

...I've only ever shipped games that were [Series]: [The Game]

Finished Dispatch tonight (despite promising myself I wouldn’t stay up late to binge the rest.).

Thoroughly enjoyed the story and characters - though feeling like I just romanced my last D&D character!

But, holy crap, those RT swipe QTEs on the Steam Deck are brutal.

Likely going for round 2…

Just back from the US. Two instances struck me:

1) Saying “hi, how are you today?” left a barista in shock someone acknowledged her as a person
2) Helped a couple get a large box into their truck and they were awestruck at the offer of help

I think…the world has become a very broken place.

I may no longer be at BioWare, yet #N7Day still gives me a whole lot of feels with many a wistful memory bubbling up, both as a fan and dev.

Throwback to my first day at the BW Edmonton office, June 2013. (Thanks for being my landmark to navigate that maze of an office, Garrus!)

This October marked 20 years as a game dev. It has been a wild ride of high highs and heart-rending lows. I’ve met incredible people along the way, some of them my truest friends.

Yet our industry is in unprecedented times, leaving me to wonder if 20 more is viable. I’d like it to be.

My whole fam is sick AND I attempted to work today. Later at a dentist appt, the hygienist belatedly realized she hadn’t turned the tv on to something other than the screen saver (she’d even moved it closer). I told her it was fine, it was the quietest moment of my day - as she was scraping my teeth

This marks the end of my first week at @telltalegames.bsky.social as Design Director!

It’s been an incredible week absorbing everything and getting to know the team. Very excited to dig into this project!

I am heartbroken for this team 💔

We are on holiday and planned to visit friends on the team…not the gathering it was going to be. At least I can give hugs in person.

Also incredibly fun when your husband gets the news on vacation while having almost no reception.

This industry is…heartache.
NEW: In March, Xbox boss Phil Spencer was so impressed by the demo of a Zenimax game codenamed Blackbird that Matt Booty had to tell him to stop playing so the meeting could continue. Yesterday, they canceled it.

As a surprise for the end of our #dnd campaign, I made portraits of the party in their final forms. Some truly big story twists that greatly impacted our PCs.

Thanks @tibermoon.bsky.social for an incredible story full of choice and consequence and world building collaboration. My forever DM ❤️

Restorative long weekend with kiddos and @ccampbellart.bsky.social

Favorite quote after kids have a discussion with a hiker comparing walking sticks (they had sticks, she had poles), said by the younger with a wistful sigh: “That human is my friend now.”

I have experienced:

- Publisher not renewing
- Publisher dropping
- 2 Acquisitions
- 3 Studio closures
- Survived 3 layoffs
- Left job: project doomed
- Left job: terrible boss
- Relocated 6x, 3x w/ kids
- Bought and sold 3 homes

Yet, I’m still here. Hoping for the best, planning for the worst.
Nearly everyone I know in games is plotting their backup career. Not because they don’t love what they do, but how many times can you get axed before you get sick of it?

Creatives could be spending that time improving their skills + pitching cool things, but no. The brain drain is gonna be real

Gregg is a former Marine and Forest Service ranger. He's saved the lives of hikers dangling off a cliff or going through cardiac arrest, and he's bravely fought forest fires to save small rural towns.

100% of his salary is paid by WA state.

Elon fired him. Share his story.

Went to the Britannia Mine Museum last weekend. The main building was bathed in incredible late afternoon light.

All I could think was, “this would make the perfect level in a game.”

That's a new one! On a work call discussing [REDACTED] and my teammates got to watch me quizzically look around as everything slightly shook. "I think...that was an earthquake?"

Our D&D party *finally* found the MIA angel they've been searching for (in game 1+ yrs, irl 4 yrs).

And it seems my attempt to kill said angel prior to meeting the party (I had a reason!)...will have consequences.

"As much as she seems pissed at [the others], with you it seems worse. PERSONAL."

A moment of serenity at sunrise.

My sister-in-law thought this was AI generated. Nope! The real deal in lovely BC.

News is too bleak.

So I’ll share a silly thing I made as a holiday gift for my D&D party. Loosely inspired by “Twas the Night Before Christmas” to give me confidence with attempting a poem.

Our idiot party engaging with a possible BBEG who is currently playing nice - and he’s maybe regretting it.

In grade school I had been so confused.

How had people let Hitler rise to power?

How had people let the McCarthy era happen?

And then now it’s, “Ah. This is how.”

We’re supposed to learn from history. Not repeat the mistakes of the past.
It’s unfortunate that this is behind a paywall, but fwiw you can start a free trial, read the article, and cancel right after…

Yesterday I wondered aloud if my kiddo would have soccer this weekend due to impending snow.

A peer was surprised it was outdoors. I said, “Of course. And they play rain or rain!”

To which a native Vancouverite laughed with, “That’s the most Vancouver thing to say.”

2+ years here and we’re in it!

Today has been an incredibly difficult day for BioWare devs.

It will be a very different place as friends and peers who I care deeply about, some who were my mentors, are suddenly on different paths from the one we shared this morning.

Thank you for everything and for being part of my life.

I told my producer how much I appreciated a heated debate between him and a peer which was then followed by laughter.

He told me he and I could do this, too. It made me feel very warm and fuzzy.

Trust, vulnerability, and not taking things personally goes a long way towards amazing collaboration.

Ok, well, hi Bluesky, nice to meet you! Watch me tentatively tip my toes into social media after a long hiatus.

Also, little did I know how my import of Twitter posts would work! I guess enjoy an incredibly jumbled timeline from 2010-2022? 😅
