Looking at some survey data here. Trump/Elon cutting off all cancer cure research is the issue that freaks voters out more than any other, also the one they've heard the least about. Important for voters to hear more about this.

Update: Hours after Musk asserted that USAID had "restored" Ebola prevention, the agency informed several organizations working with USAID on Ebola prevention that their contracts were being cancelled, two people tell me + @johnphudson.bsky.social.

One of those organizations was UNICEF.

If you’re a Dem elected and you’re not mentioning the massive cuts to cancer cure and social security funding in every public appearance you’re just not doing your job.

It was very very clearly an ambush
Intentionally or unintentionally, the White House doing stuff like this is going to leave the impression that was an ambush, which might do even more damage to America's international reputation than what just unfolded.
A text from a White House advisor to me:

I keep saying this: if you grew up under an abuser, you know exactly what this is and that no appeasement is possible.
Re Zelensky at the WH, yet again, feminists and trauma/abuse- informed thinkers are years ahead of political analysts.

There is no acceptable affect, no way to charm an abuser, and no “deal” other than playing very very dead that would change how Trump and his flying monkey Vance behaved.

Make a huge mistake. Then make a false claim about how you fixed it.

They did it for PEPFAR.

Now Ebola.

I follow this particular topic VERY closely, so here's what really happened and why this isn't true AT ALL...🧵
Elon Musk: "We will make mistakes. We won't be perfect ... so for example, with USAID, one of the things we accidentally canceled very briefly was ebola prevention."

When someone expresses genuine regret voting for Trump, the best thing we can do is welcome them into the fold. We're not gonna get anywhere with ridiculous gatekeeping and pettiness. Let's offer folks an off-ramp into the coalition of reasonable adults.

Imagine if Elon Musk were a useful idiot for Russia. Actually, you don't have to imagine it.
Elon Musk has shared this fake E! News video on X, which claims USAID has paid millions to Hollywood celebrities to visit Ukraine.

The clip, now community noted, is the work of a well-known Russian disinformation campaign that creates fake videos of news outlets to push anti-Ukrainian narratives.

In the coming weeks, a lot of slow-on-the uptake folks are going to begin belatedly realizing Trump is both an inept moron and a dangerous autocrat. Our great civic challenge in these trying times will be calmly welcoming them aboard instead of primal-screaming in their faces.

This all seems 100% right on, but I have no idea if we can stop it. Also I think now it will look less like a bailout and more just like making crypto mandatory, or directly moving treasury funds into it.

It’s so interesting to see these urgent exhortations to reestablish decorum. I have not seen evidence of a “coarsening” of American society. If anything, the opposite: I’ve seen thousands of individuals asserting their humanity and protesting the indignity of the system UHC profits from.

Trump's tariff bluster is a "scam designed to create the illusion that his fearsome threats are needed to get Mexico to act. Bank on this: Once he's in office, he will credit his threat of tariffs for getting Mexico's cooperation, even though it's already happening."

Read this smart 🧵↘️
This is getting overlooked, but the whole premise of Trump's threat of tariffs is based on a lie. He's claiming Mexico must be bullied into stopping migrants. But Mexico is *already* doing this. That's a big reason crossings have dropped. 1/

Excellent @astra.bsky.social piece that argues the Republicans have a strong "ground game" (well-funded groups working year-around and not exclusively on elections) that is a match for the Dems door-knocking, ads and text messages each election cycle. www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...
Democrats’ much-touted ‘ground game’ was a disaster. Here’s how to fix it
Cable ads and bussed-in volunteers don’t cut it any more. If the party wants to win, it must engage voters in a collective push for change

I like the Capitol Switchboard - which can connect you to the DC office of any Rep or Senator: 202-224-3121. Great to put in your phone. My new social media rule-for-self: no scrolling for more than 15 minutes without making a call about something. Likes and reposts don't count for anything.
Call/email or blast them on social media. But hit up your reps ASAP. HR 9495 is an abomination and would expand the incoming administration's power to punish dissent. Find your member of Congress 👇🏾https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member

This makes sense to me - worth a read for why we need the NY Times, specifically, in spite of all our disappointment with them.
I concede all those criticisms of the New York Times, but we need to know what’s happening, and they’re in the best position to find out and tell us. With their high-up spot in the media ecosystem, if they fall, other outlets will likely change their behavior to Trump’s liking in response.
We Must Defend the New York Times
If you're mad at the Times, you probably have a point, but hear me out. With the coming threat of Trump Term II, we need them.
