I taught at a photo school for years but it closed last summer and I miss sharing my love of wildlife photography with people. I'm generally a hopeful and optimistic person, but I had a down moment today. And then this poem practically wrote itself:

Shades of gray
or golden mean
die in darkened cruelty.

How much good
and how much green
is destined now to go unseen?

If creating or doing something new has you feeling vulnerable and grasping for confidence, I have some good news: 1) That's totally normal. 2) That doesn't mean you can't do it, it just means you have to act in spite of it.

So don't talk yourself out of action; be brave and do something anyway.

What's your favorite thing you've ever created? (And if "favorite" is impossible, what's one you just really, really love?) It could be anything: a piece of art, a food dish, a photo, a story, a song, a presentation, a project, a program, a whole organization... we all create in different ways!

If you have an idea that brings beauty or knowledge or kindness into the world, do it. The world needs it. But *you* need it, too. You deserve to breathe life into beauty and growth and kindness. You deserve to take action on the things that matter to you. You deserve to feel hope. Especially now.
