btw update on this: after my lawyers submitted our response to defense's request for summary judgement (which included 6 sworn declarations from USIP people who were present the day of the raid), MPD requested a two week extension to respond which the judge granted. response due this friday.
NEW — I'm suing DC Metro Police for the full body cam footage from the DOGE raid on the US Institute of Peace back in March.

The public deserves to know why MPD chose to sell out the people they’re tasked with protecting in order to bend to Trump's will. I'm repped pro bono by @rcfp.org.

Prof Richman lays out the theory of his request here. (He says docs were never properly sorted in 2019-2021, illegally retained for years, & then illegally searched without a warrant in Sept 2025.)

There's a high stakes race going on. Prof Dan Richman is seeking a TRO to stop govt from using docs that were seized from his devices yrs ago. They were key to govt's 1st case against Comey. But Judge orders Richman to address procedural glitches first. h/t @annabower.bsky.social

Trump is illegally attacking boats allegedly carrying drugs. He brags about being tough on drug dealers.

Meanwhile, he pardons the former Honduran president — a man convicted in American court of bringing hundreds of tons of cocaine to the U.S.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

What’s nuts is this all happened in the first admin.

Yet people couldn’t imagine it repeating. Or saw Harris as equal.

Philip Slater called our ability to memoryhole the past “Toilet Assumption”: if we can’t see something it doesn’t exist.

IOW we think forgetting history stops it from repeating.

It would appear that there is a blanket pause on all applications, which I imagine also includes applications to extend or change status. But I haven't seen official confirmation of that.

If they are delaying extensions/changes of status then yes, some people will probably fall out of status.
Can those people still file bridge applications to extend their status? Or are non-immigrant applications also paused?

For Wired, I wrote about this week's stomach-churning Mad Men snafu, and about the larger perils of transferring classic shows into new formats:
HBO Max’s 'Mad Men' Barf Scene Proves ‘Remastered’ Doesn’t Mean ‘Better’
The errors in one of the most beautiful shows ever made continue a modern tradition of reformatting things that are better off left alone.

Trump on pardoning the former president of Honduras: "That was a Biden horrible witch hunt. A lot of people in Honduras asked me to do that & I did it. I feel very good about it. If you have some drug dealers in your country and you're the president, you don't necessarily put the president in jail"

Interesting that he omits the fact that the investigation into former Honduras president Juan Orlando Hernandez began during Trump’s first term

So technically today’s pardon would reverse a Trump witch hunt

But really, it's just another example of his "Biden Bad/Trump Good" fantasy

This is actually only about immigration benefits being decided by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which has nothing to do with immigration judges.

Immigration judges hear cases where the government is seeking deportation. This, by contrast, is just an application for a benefit.
If they really want to fix the broken immigration system they could start by making the hiring of immigration judges a priority.

For people waiting for a naturalization oath ceremony, they have green cards now and so therefore are not in any danger at all. For people who are applying for a green card and who are present on a status with a defined expiration date, there might be a risk of falling out of status during a delay.
So are they going to start deporting them? Like I know this isn’t the most at-risk group, but there are about 65 Venezuelan MLB players. If they start deportation that might finally get some rich whites (the owners) pissed off enough to almost say something.

Heard the same; this is what I mean by inches from the finish line; scheduled for the final citizenship oath ceremony and now suddenly that date is cancelled and people don't know what will happen next.
Our office has clients caught up in this. Hearing from colleagues nationwide about people having their naturalization oath ceremonies canceled. Some of the affected people aren't even subject to the travel ban due to other acquired citizenship, but they are still being caught up.
The Trump admin has paused all immigration and naturalization processes for people from one of the 19 travel ban countries; including Cuba and Venezuela.

Even people who fully passed the citizenship exam are having their cases put on hold, just inches from the finish line.

Scoop: The Trump administration has paused all immigration applications filed by people from 19 countries banned from travel to the United States earlier this year, halting green card and U.S. citizenship processing for broad swaths of people.

More coming soon.

For years we thought racist appeals had to have a veneer of deniability so their intended targets could convince themselves they aren't racist. Not anymore.

This is what a nakedly white supremacist administration looks like.

Alex Horton, one of the two Washington Post reporters who broke the story, has been a participant in more violent combat than Pete Hegseth by an order of magnitude.

It's not a coincidence that he got the scoop.
Q: So you didn't see any survivors after that first strike?

HEGSETH: I did not personally see survivors. The thing was on fire. This is called the fog of war. This is what you in the press don't understand. You sit in your air conditioned offices and plant fake stories in the Washington Post
