I care about the poor, the sick, the hungry, the homeless, all the disenfranchised of our society. One of my favorite things is teaching English to refugees, but sadly, they're currently unable to enter the U.S.

I never thought this would happen here.

but they weren't wanted there. Eventually, Nepal offered shelter to 100,000 Lhotshampa in refugee camps. However, they are not "Nepali enough" for that country to confer citizenship.

Does any of this sound familiar to you? While not completely similar stories, many people from other lands

Some Lhotshampa protested these measures, leading to their arrest and that of thousands of family members, friends, and neighbors. Homes were seized. Citizenship was revoked. Many Lhotsampa were tortured and killed in front of their children. The remaining Lhotshampa population fled to India,

However, in the 1980s, everyone living in their region had to provide documentation of legal residence back to 1958. All Lhotsampa were fined or sent to jail if they wore anything but a traditional costume in public. Finally, the Nepali language was removed from school curriculum.

In the late 19th century, poor Nepali farmers were encouraged to move to southern Bhutan to work the fields.

Years ago when I Iived in Houston and felt like a refugee there, I taught English to Bhutanese refugees. It was one of the most important, meaningful things I've ever done.

Since 1990, hundreds upon thousands of Bhutanese individuals of Nepali descent were deported from Bhutan and forced

WE HAVE QUESTIONS…

This is a kidnapping. No uniform, no badge, civilian car. Who are they?

ICE? Sanctioned bounty hunters? Either way, they’re grabbing people without warrants.

How often is this happening, and why aren’t more people talking about it? Congress?
