So sorry to hear that Gilson Lavis, Squeeze drummer and long-time member of Jools Holland's Big Band, has passed. A brilliant drummer who was intrinsic to Squeeze's heyday & mid eighties resurgence. The third drummer from that great new wave era to leave this year after Rick Buckler and Clem Burke.

Wonderful to read that film material from The Terry Jones Archive has been donated by Terry's family to the BFI National Archive for preservation. The collection includes Terry’s personal 16mm copies of the Python movies, a 35mm print of his adaptation of The Wind in the Willows & early BBC sketches

Absolutely horrific news from my local train station tonight. The only blessing is that the station is literally just a couple of minutes away from the local hospital. Thoughts with everyone affected.

Really enjoyed chatting with @chrischibnall.bsky.social, creator of Broadchurch & former Doctor Who showrunner, about his excellent debut crime novel Death At The White Hart. Set in contemporary Dorset, it’s highly recommended for whodunnit fans. Read my interview in The Dorset Magazine out today.

Enjoyed chatting to Eric Pulido of Midlake today about 20 years of music making and their stunning new psych folk album ‘A Bridge To Far’ (released 7 Nov). It’s good to see the band continuing to thrive and evolve in the post Tim Smith era.

Left my PC for an hour and came back to this screen. It’s been working fine all day. I’ve run the system diagnostics it suggests and everything’s passed. Any suggestions welcome please! Everything is backed up in the cloud fortunately! Thanks.

Finished #Andor Season 2. Devastating treatise on fascism & the rise of revolution. Deeply relevant, Mon Mothma's senate speech about alternative facts & the death of truth is incredibly prescient, while the Ghorman massacre scene is a chilling tour de force. One of the best TV dramas this century.

Dylan's lyrics always seem to find their moment. It's 40+ yrs since this was written, yet it couldn't be more apt had it been yesterday:

They say that patriotism is the last refuge, to which a scoundrel clings

Steal a little and they throw you in jail, steal a lot and they make you king
