Hello BlueSky! I am a radical unschooler & founder/facilitator of an ALC (see profile). Children are people, & one of the major catastrophic problems of our culture at this time is oppressive authoritarian practices imposed on children and each other.

They know people will work. But they know basic income means people will be less inclined to put up with workplace abuse and most workplaces are abusive.
People say nobody will work if they have basic income etc but honestly the super rich stay distressingly active

My 16 year-old son (he's in college, doesn't have to be up early, I rarely see him before noon) got up at 7:45 to join with other teens in an 8am session of D&D. When folks are motivated, they can do what needs to be done. I feel like there's a lesson here for us.

Starting to connect with more unschoolers and child advocates here - that’s fun!

I don’t believe we can be free from oppressive authoritarian cultural systems until we untangle the oppressive authoritarian power structures in our own families with our own children. And I’m ready to talk about it.

I think the new skates and I are friends now. They are a little quirky, but dude so am I. Euphoria ❄️
I upgraded my ice skates, & it is taking forever to break them in. Thumbs down. I listened to the new Wicked soundtrack while skating though 10/10

Every bit of this.
What is there left to say about the mass murder of our children that hasn’t already been said?

We know the solution. We know the obstacles. And not enough changes to prevent the next mass shooting.

But at least CEOs are getting free therapy & security & terror charges against peaceful detractors.😐

I don’t believe in violence. It is because I don’t believe in violence that I do believe we should prevent it, not by making proclamations about how not to be violent, but by not robbing people of the chance to meet their physical and emotional needs.

Those who do the latter are doing violence.

I don’t know if I have it in me to make the holiday magic this year. Someone else make the magic.

1. The conventional explanation for food deserts—that these places are too poor or too rural to generate enough spending on groceries, or too Black to overcome racist corporate redlining — fail to grapple with a key fact: food deserts didn’t used to exist. My new piece in The Atlantic.
The Mystery of Food Deserts
They didn’t materialize around the country for no reason. Something happened.

Our holiday with chosen family was so good. I indulged a little (diabetic-I really do have to be careful!) & am ready to pass out from high blood glucose & wine. Good times good times 💤

In line at the grocery earlier this week the topic of green bean casserole came up. It’s a very polarizing topic. I am not a fan, but by the looks I got from people in line, the bagger & the cashier, I was alone in my hatred. & deservedly, I mean, who am I to yuck your yum anyway?

My daughter(12) is a very selective eater, & she deserves to feel included & taken care of on the holiday. I make sure she has her special foods. I want my kids to look back on their childhoods fondly w/ foods that feel nostalgic. In her case that’s deviled eggs & pillsbury crescent rolls. #unschool

I believe that asylum seekers should be able to find refuge and that allowing them in will help us be a better place. I believe that our immigration policy should provide paths to citizenship. I believe that everyone who works here should have legal status so that we can minimize their exploitation.
