The US Coast Guard issues a new, more stringent policy on hate symbols including the swastika, just hours after The Washington Post reported that the service would instead classify such symbols as “potentially divisive” under new guidelines. wapo.st/4rdDQew
In reversal, Coast Guard again classifies swastikas, nooses as hate symbols
The new order came hours after The Post reported the service would instead classify such symbols as “potentially divisive” under guidelines set for release next month.

Justice Sotomayor is crystal clear in dissent as to what's happening: "We should not have to live in a country where the Government can seize anyone who looks Latino, speaks Spanish, and appears to work a low wage job. Rather than stand idly by while our constitutional freedoms are lost, I dissent."

This is my sister and brother-in-law’s church. Their kids went to school there only a few years ago. 😭
This community has been devastated. Credit to the @startribune.com photog, Richard Tsong-Taatarii. And all the journalists, first responders and health care workers who responded to this horror.
No mother should have to run barefoot toward gunfire to save their child, but that’s exactly what this mom instinctively did when she learned about the horrific mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School yesterday. 🧵

For me, it is the permission slip: legislators are equals, period. You can assign a detail, you might even arrest, but a permission slip? No one is the boss of no one in a legislature.
Some Texas Democratic women have torn up their permission slips and will now be hosting a “slumber party for Democracy” on the House floor.

Multiple credible claims that Bove urged DOJ employees to break the law and ignore the judiciary. And the GOP Senate decided this is not disqualifying because nothing is disqualifying.
By a vote of 50-49, the #Senate confirmed Emil J. Bove III to be a United States Circuit Judge for the Third Circuit

Republican Senators Collins and Murkowski voted against.
Senator Hagerty did not vote.
No further votes this evening.

“In the past, military deployments have been forgotten because the wave of unrest broke gently. This time, however, the wave may crash violently,” Joshua Braver writes:
When the Military Comes to American Soil
Domestic deployments have generally been quite restrained. Can they still be?
