The old version of you is the version who was scared to write, who was scared to start something new, who was scared to take risks.

You don’t have to explain this new version of you to anyone.

Writing should bring you comfort and should bring you joy. It’s yours. It belongs to you.

Go write.
Day 40

Point of view. Past tense. Present tense. All of that. Yes, it helps to know which you want to use as you start writing but guess what? You can edit later as well!

Just write now. Edit later.

600 words every day started Aug 3 to Dec 31 for a novel draft by end of year.

At the pace I’ve been writing, I might break a world record……..for slowest writer 🐌

During Black History Month, California celebrates the rich history, culture & contributions of Black Americans.

Let this month — and every month following — inspire our unified voices as we continue together on the path toward equality, liberty, and opportunity for all.

It's the first day of Black History Month. Please celebrate Black authors, including author, poet, and editor Jamal Hodge whose BESTIARY OF BLOOD made the long list of the BSFA Awards. It includes my short story, Infinity Song. It's always an honor to work with Jamal.

There’s another pitch event 2.1. I’m not hosting that one.

I again encourage you to:

Keep writing
Keep querying
The more you query the better you’ll get at it
Make connections and find your people who will support you. This is invaluable.

Thank you for being so wonderful today!
There's a lot of pitch events here at the start of the year, so it's pretty hard to keep track.

Here's a list of the ones we know of and when they're happening!

Mr. President: Instead of stealing Greenland from Denmark, I have a better idea.

In Denmark, everyone is guaranteed health care, college education is free, parents receive 1-year of paid paternity leave & workers don’t make less than $22 an hour.

Let's steal those ideas.

I have one wish for you today. It’s that you can relax those shoulders, unclench that jaw, take a deep breath and release all your anxieties just for one moment to remember you’re alive.

It’s gone already. They didn’t even wait until midnight. I planned on going live at 8pm PST which is 11pm Eastern so I could be on for the final hour but I didn’t even get to do that. Now I’m sad.

The mayor of Boston, Michelle Wu, apparently worked all morning before going to the hospital to have a baby in the afternoon. 😳 That is some dedication. (Also, congrats Mayor Wu and family!)

The Supreme Court will hear a challenge to a provision of the Affordable Care Act that requires insurers to cover the cost of preventative health treatments such as cancer screenings.
