Sorry I was late to the meeting. My dog needed me to rub her belly and say WHO'S A GOOD GIRL over and over again.

I forgot to tell y'all that our Higher Ed AI Landscape survey had over 900 respondents from more than 600 institutions. Less than two weeks until the report comes out! 🥳

I just used the phrase "regroup and circle back," and I have feelings about it.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but hey, wouldn't it be fun to update your headshot this year?
January 26, 2024 at 10:41 PM
Our AI Landscape research report is off to the editor today! Should be about two weeks before I get to share with all of you. I can't wait to see what you think!

It's an "I finally got this headset to work so I'm never turning it off again" sort of day.

Something I find interesting is how much discourse there is related to students plagiarizing with gen AI... But then there is this uptick in researchers using it to plagiarize, and you never hear about that except in quiet spaces.

I've been consumed with analyzing data from the first ever EDUCAUSE AI Landscape Study. I can't wait for y'all to read the report. @educause.bsky.social

So many emails and meetings exhorting, demanding, begging us to recruit more international students, and not one single senior management figure has spoken up to acknowledge that the problem is not *us* it is a deliberate political tactic attacking us from outside. Six figure leadership, huh.
Why are universities losing international students it's a mystery
If you’re working in the UK, you pay NI and taxes for the NHS. The surcharge is an extra tax on being an immigrant. Whilst the surcharge funds are given to health depts, there is no record of how much actually goes to the NHS!

I've got to start posting here more... The other place is feeling like an old abandoned warehouse.

The last few days before the annual conference always feel like the calm before the storm.

Do any of you have committees or working groups at your institution reviewing policies that may act as barriers to student success? I also think a mechanism for students to alert us to such policies would be helpful.

Was just reflecting on how intro soc of ed in grad school was such a formative experience for me. Not only because I learned a lot about seminal work in the field, but because I disagreed with my prof and he docked my grade. Cemented my desire to stick around, speak up, disrupt.

I'm excited to see y'all at the conference next week, but I have to admit I'm MOST excited about erasing half the stuff on my whiteboard.

I just have to give my usual rant about research to pub timelines. It's Oct 2023, and I'm reading papers where data were collected in 2019 and 2020. The world is completely different today. We have to push back on this system and get our research out while it's still relevant.
