Just looking in to see what is what. Blues, cats, cakes and photography and stuff. Might have spent 30 years in broadcast. no dm.

🔉What dangers does X pose to our democracy? And should the government stop using it?

Good to hear yesterday from @sundersays.bsky.social and @petergeoghegan.bsky.social on the immense risk of X as it ignores legal obligations and its owner tries to influence UK politics.

Nothing has changed - #Egyptian flip flops 😃: a pair of sandals made of woven reed and palm leaves. Dating around 1000 BC. It has been remarkably preserved because of Egypt's arid desert climate.

On display at National Museum Copenhagen.

For a small country, Wales has a surprising number of very, very cool dinosaurs.

Pendraig milnerae (Pendraig = “chief dragon” in Welsh) was discovered in 1952, not far from where I live, but only named in 2021 after being re-discovered in storage by Angela Milner and Susannah Maidment.

And it's not over yet.

We call on Peers to reinsert this measure into the Bill when it comes back to them.

A future where nature and people thrive together is possible. We just need the Government to listen.

Amendment 40 to the Planning and Infrastructure Bill has been voted down.

Had it passed, it would have meant more precious wildlife would have retained existing protections.

Instead, MPs have bought into the false 'nature vs growth' narrative.

A tram lights up the gloom during the biting early winter of 1947. Amazingly, it's only 2.30pm on this November day as the freezing smog takes hold. Glasgow would endure frequent pea-soupers prior to the Clean Air Act of 1956.

This Maintenance Week we thought we’d highlight the reality of maintaining historic churches.

Although thought to be a less glamorous aspect of our work, maintenance requires great skills and expertise.

NEW: I wrote about British churches installing heat pumps, in some cases in 1,000-year-old buildings! Decarbonisation may not be easy, but many view it as an act of faith.

This is a special feature to mark The Reengineer’s first anniversary! Spread the word! 🥳
