Insane turnout numbers in NYC on the first day of early in-person voting.

Per @admcrlsn.bsky.social some of these borough numbers represent increases of over *500%* compared to Day 1 turnout in 2021 for the last Mayoral election.

Bonkers.

Here's a gift link to the New York Times' coverage of the initial Tea Party rallies in April 2009 which inspired the media to treat it like a massive movement.

Check out how tiny the crowds were:

Philly: 200
DC: "several hundred"
Boston: 500
Austin: 1,000
Houston: 2,000

Well worth the read, especially during Climate Week.
Gov. Hochul’s “all-of-the-above” energy plan means more pipelines + more risks for New Yorkers.

I’m fighting for 15GW of renewable power — because our climate goals won’t be met with half-measures. The future is clean energy.

Let’s make that true.

Our abdication of the field in both green energy and in science and technology more broadly – read up on battery technology coming out of China – is going to ensure that this century, which could have been ours to lead, will belong to China. Entirely an own goal.
Important.
1/ New report from @bentleyallan.bsky.social's Net Zero Policy Lab: As the US withdraws from green tech industries and pressures allies to follow suit, China is stepping in to power the developing world's energy transition. The scale is staggering.

On a night like tonight, I think we can all agree on three things: the U.S. is a far too violent country, with warlike levels of gun violence; people shouldn't be murdered due to what they believe or say, no matter how awful, and Kash Patel is an embarrassing joke as the director of the FBI.

It is entirely possible to be respectful about the death of a person you disagreed with without “honoring” him by vowing to continue his disagreeable, hateful “work.”
The best way to honor Charlie's memory is to continue his work: engage with each other, across ideology, through spirited discourse. In a democracy, ideas are tested through words and good-faith debate — never through violence.

The thing about investing in public transit is that it *scales* — the more people use it, the better it gets. For everyone.

Whereas the more cars there are, the *worse* everything about driving gets. Traffic. Parking.

[Ever noticed that in just about every car ad it’s alone on the road? Yeah.]

Who Says Israel Is Committing a Genocide in Gaza? Everyone on This List
After almost two years, more and more politicians, experts, and human rights groups are finally using the G-word to describe Israel's violence in Gaza, but the list is still relatively short.

The mass starvation & killing of Palestinians in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli gov’t is a chillul hashem, a desecration of God.

Jewish leaders who criticized Zohran Mamdani for three words he doesn’t use should raise their voices loudly here as well.

Gaza is starving. Where are the American Jewish leaders?
A fear of being labelled antisemitic still deters American Jews and Jewish institutions from taking a position that is morally correct.
