Nicotine is experienced with many reward — social interaction, work breaks, alcohol, sweet vape flavors, etc.

Do these nicotine-reward pairings make nicotine more likely to be taken?

Check out my team’s work addressing this question. Spoiler alert-yes it does!

So a former postdoc from our department had just started as a PO at NIH and was terminated in the wave of terminations last week. He is in the research triangle and a phenomenal scientist with expertise in stress and glia. If anyone in the RTI is hiring asap please let me know! #neuroskyence

Very cool step towards understanding how xylazine contributes to the experience of fentanyl!

We’ve been hearing for years that xylazine changes the feel, so it’s exciting to see this bearing out.
Super happy to share this amazing work spearheaded by @jbesheer.bsky.social and Brooke Bender, AKA some of the best collaborators to have! Here's a brief thread on the findings 1/n

Sharing this again because I've heard the term "alcoholic" more at #acnp2024 than probably in the totality of all other substance use conferences I've attended throughout my career. Not trying to call anyone out, just need ppl to reflect on language use since this does real harm to people with SUDs
Drug use researchers (esp. those in neuro/pharmacology) - please stop using the word "abuse" (e.g., drug abuse) and other stigmatizing terms

This isn't an arbitrary suggestion, there's legitimate empirical evidence showing that words like this do harm
