All Democrats should’ve fought harder for everyone (progressive taxation, education, universal healthcare, labor rights, social safety net, etc.) - but it's tough when those who’d benefit most back the GOP, voting against their own interests and blocking the very policies that could lift them up.

She saw clearly that "the greatest danger of tyranny is of course from the executive." One day - hopefully soon - we’ll be wise enough to teach Hannah Arendt’s work in every high school across the US. Maybe then we won’t stumble into fascism again thinking we’re just being 'patriotic.'
As a descendant of German immigrants, I devoured histories of the rise of fascism to grasp how the cultured and educated democracy of my great grandparents could succumb so tragically. Decades later, I do understand. Because it is happening here. (Jackie Calmes)
