The best way to fight for our country against MAGA threats is to not vote for Canadian MAGA supporters.

Though incredibly different situations, we were joined by chronic illness. her columns were amazing. An incredible human. Your memory is and will be a blessing. Thank you, Shawna.

Opinion: Chronically ill, disabled Free Press columnist Shawna Forester Smith died last week, three months after writing this Compass for Living
Someone I knew left a Compass for Living when she died and I thought it was brilliant, so I am stealing her idea. Thanks, JoAnn — may your memory be a blessing. So here it is.

On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, I reflect on the six million Jewish People who were murdered by the Nazis, including members of my own family. I remember the millions who were persecuted and killed because of their ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, or political beliefs.

⚖️Our prisons are in crisis. Overcrowding shows "tough on crime" policies don’t work. Real safety comes from helping people change. Let’s build a justice system rooted in hope and humanity. ❤️

I would also recommend reading the book Tyranny by Timothy Snyder. It’s available in print, audio, and graphic novel.
Excellent advice. Don’t despair, and do not obey in advance! Not all his threats will come to fruition.

“Canadian content” for MLK day. Loved his critique of hippies. So much more though … Also check out Bob Hunter’s Lecture being hosted by Pendle Hill and Earlham College tonight (look up PH or EC for details).
From Canada, I hope folks are taking some time this Martin Luther King Jr. Day to reflect on the hope he had for America.

Here’s his lecture from the 1967 Massey Lecture in Canada - Conscience for Change - 1967 Massey
