Cowell’s Beach is the only break where I’ve hung ten, and this story reminded me why I liked it so much: paddle way out past the folks on soft-top rental boards and catch the waves that break before they get that far all the way in.

Somebody gratified my favorite wheelchair accessible sign, part of the Scott Street Labyrinth in Duboce Park.

The labyrinth includes a finger sized 3D model for the folks who can't see or walk the full-scale paved version. While I was at it, I removed some other graffiti and did a little cleaning.

The new elevator and accessibility improvements at Castro Station in San Francisco are getting closer to completion.

The structure’s now clad in glass panels and lit from inside at night.

Barely two blocks from my home sits a classic, intricately detailed, single-screen "movie palace" undergoing major renovations and improvements.

Being a little-changed time capsule from the "Roaring 20s" would make it historic, even if it wasn't a prime example of architect Timothy Pfluger's work.

San Francisco Muni streetcar no. 1040 is the very last of 5,000+ PCC-type streetcars built in the US from the 1930s through 1950s.

1040 was restored for regular daily service on the F-Market & Wharves historic streetcar line. I get to watch them pulling out through #dolorespark in the morning.

It's election day, with only one item on the California ballot: a temporary redistricting measure to counter Texas doing the same thing.

At least here in California, it was put up to a public vote. To encourage more people to vote, @djsatthepolls.bsky.social are trying to make elections more fun.

Morning Edition NPR aired a story on the impact of government closure on communities that depend on National Park visitors.

The obvious outro music is “Where The Streets Have No Name”, but they ended on “Running to a Standstill”, which feels a more poignant and fitting.

Businesses near Joshua Tree National Park feel the strain of the government shutdown
Small businesses in Joshua Tree, California, rely on tourism dollars from the nearby national park. But with the government shut down, their bottom line is at risk.

San Francisco Muni streetcar no. 1 was built in 1912. It is the first of 10 built for the launch of Muni's first line, the A-Geary.

This three-story-tall finch is a new mural by local artist @fnnch.bsky.social.

Right now, it sits behind construction walls. When the new elevator and Harvey Milk Plaza redesign work is finished, it will look over a peaceful grove of trees behind all the people coming and going at Castro Station.

San Francisco Muni streetcar no. 496 was built for Melbourne, Australia, in 1928.

It now runs (occasionally) on the F-Market & Wharves historic streetcar line. Everyone knows the cable cars, the F-line line runs with streetcars from all over the world, and makes a stop on my corner.

Today, we celebrated the grand opening of San Francisco's newest park. Sunset Dunes is a 2-mile waterfront esplanade along Ocean Beach, linking Golden Gate Park and the SF Zoo.

It's a former highway we voted to close permanently after a temporary closure during the COVID lockdown.

Work is underway converting 2 miles of oceanfront roadway in San Francisco into an art filled pedestrian and bike promenade.

It officially opens Saturday, April 12, and today it got an official name: Sunset Dunes.

I discovered #LEGO now requires second-factor authentication.

Thank you for protecting my data… but that short time grabbing the code made me wonder if this was more about preventing kids from placing orders. I’d be surprised if LEGO didn’t get calls from parents cancelling orders.

I had a truly San Francisco moment last taking my dog, Disco, for a walk last week.

Passing by the Duboce Park N-Judah stop, I overheard three tech bros waiting for the train talking an AI startup idea. I didn’t catch the concept, but they were talking about a go to market strategy.

A neighborhood wine store wrote, "Buy the imported stuff before the Feds ban it!", on the chalk sandwich board sign out front.

One of my Platy fish has been sick. For the last two weeks, the little guy hasn't been eating and lost weight.

I set up an isolation tank where I can turn off the volcano filter's air and let him nibble on flakes at his own pace. His apatite was a little better today.
