New year, new platform, and I see folk here introduce themselves, so here goes.

I'm Jamie, an ecologist, wannabe sci-commer, orchardist, cider-maker, banjo-picker, star-gazer, and low-key Pokémon trainer.

You can usually find me out in the fields, and now it seems, right here.

Hello Bluesky.
Golden hour on the Levels. Marsh harrier, sparrowhawk, kestrel and egret making the most of the last rays of light, heading gently home to roost just like me, after a good day's work done.

I'm not at the Citizen Zoo conference this week and the FOMO is very real. Instead, I've been out on a farm visit where I saw a barn owl, a kingfisher, and 34 cranes - so it's not all bad.

Just think of that. 100 pine martens are out there right now, back in landscapes they used to roam.

It's wonderful to see the ongoing success of the pine marten's recovery. I'm glad to have been just a part of their continued return, and long may they remain.

Fence broken, trees down, and the only ones leaving the house today are the roof tiles, so I'll take the chance to catch up on some reading.
