Finally I have my very own copy of Wittfogel's "Society and Economy of China".
It's not the hardcover edition from 1931 but even having it in paperback feels amazing.

If they make me a president I want to be sworn in placing my hands on this shit.

Don’t exactly know what‘s going on here but someone left a single volume of an encyclopedia out on the street.

Sucks that Gates of Hell is not from 2025 so I can't nominate it on Steam for the "Best Game You Suck At" category.

Genuinely wasn't expecting the Persona 5 artbook to show up months after I ordered it.
It's actually kind of cool to read the comments attached to the pieces.

This thing has been tempting me for WEEKS in the window of the bookstore and I finally succumbed and got it.
It's the size and weight of multiple bricks and sometimes 90% of the page is just increasingly autistic commentary on the life and times of Holmes.

Got a cheapo set of Glenn Miller CDs and honestly it’s the exact kind of disgusting background I was looking for.
It almost makes me angry how tasteless it all is.

I‘m impressed how the Ninth Gate, while not really Tarot-centric, used the symbols of the deck well enough that I kinda clocked in where this shit was sorta heading like 30 minutes in.

813 is such an interesting novel because you'd think someone like Lupin is above nationality in a sense, but in the latter half of the novel Leblanc seems to get the plot sort of bogged down in some strange nationalist fantasy entailing Luping trying to get back Alsace-Lorainne.

Finishing the last volume I kinda don't know how to feel about this. It's an insanely pretty manga.
The plot is kind of inconsequential, not that it's a problem, really. Kinda feels like something you could turn into a small OVA.
I'm going to try to properly articulate this but reading this manga just feels wrong, mostly because of the art. The art is pretty. It's basically the artist taking the original designs of an idealized JRPG and then turning the dial up to 11.

Probably should've timed it better for it to be something high and mighty instead of pulp fiction essentially, but this is apparently volume 1300 in my library: Maurice Leblanc's "The Crystal Stopper".

You know what?
I wouldn't actually want the author of a book titled "A History of Japanese detective fiction" to look any different.

I'm happy knowing that he probably enjoyed every minute of working on this.

Got drunk. Checked out the local anime con.
Time well spent methinks.

Japan's "Mundane Halloween" costume contest is back!

Each year website DailyPortalZ holds a contest where people dress up as something super duper ordinary.

Here's a thread of some of my favorites from the 2025 contest!

Translating the case of Judge Bao and the the ox tongue from the Tangyin Bishi and it's pretty great how it makes little sense to us because you wouldn't think that in ancient China you would need a government permit to slaughter an ox.
