I enjoy pints of cask ale, crosswords and the darts. Oh, and I occasionally write a blog.

Spent the last fifteen minutes or so searching random place names followed by CAMRA just so I can see region/district websites. They’re absolutely horrid, so outdated and clearly just left to ruin. If you want young people to sign up to CAMRA, don’t have your website look like a forum from 2003.

This last weekend I spent in Sheffield for the Abbeydale Road Beer Festival. My lord I wish I remembered more of it. Getting the print home in one piece was harder than I first thought.

Those who still work behind the bar, what are your thoughts on patrons who will order their pint and linger for a bit of small talk?

I’ll admit I’m a serial offender, (mind you I’m cautious of other customers) but I do think that without this it just feels too.. transactional?

Following the namesake of this beer “Go on then” and treating myself to a sausage roll. Positively sweltering but the staff are class and the drinks going down nicely!

A £2.29 pint of Jaipur at Spoons before my journey back to Sheffield. A few pubs that I’ve got too long without (looking at you Rutty and Shakey’s) and of course Sheffield Wine Week in Bole Hill. Cannot wait!

No matter what you prefer to drink in the pub, you should be angry at Carlsberg's attempts to dupe all of us.

If you spot this on the bar, please report it here to support CAMRA's complaint to Trading Standards:

It’s not a common thought for a 21-year-old but I’m dying to get a hold of some Foxwhelp. I want to get either apples or juice now so I can age it whilst I grow old. Who knows where cider will be in 20+ years.

When in Rome? When in Sheffield. Of course I’m in the old shoe today, have a few beers but but Elusive Brewing’s American Red stood out. No photos, but I do love coming back here.

Chilling out at the Wonky Labrador this afternoon/evening. Hidden gem in Sheffield, cosy little craft beer micro bar - I import you to visit! Mac and his team always make you feel so welcome it’s a cracking place.

And they do a doggy paddle!

Back once again in the Swan & Railway Hotel and the Bass is sublime. Shame I have to get a train because I could happily stay till the sun goes down.

Train to Sheffield from Wigan. Would be rude not to pop into Swan & Railway for one. Pint of Ghost Ship for me today.

We hosted Session #144 last week and asked people to tell us about the best beer they could drink at home right now. Here’s what they came up with.

Going to my first beer festival since Indie Beer Feast in 2024 - soloing it this time but really excited! Can’t wait to try some cracking beer. Particularly excited for 1838 by @thornbridge.bsky.social as I’ve not had a chance to try any of the burton union beers yet since moving home!

I had planned to make a piece of this but ended up getting dead caught up with things over Christmas. Particular favourites of the line up in no particular order were: Old Peculier, Broadside, Otter Ale, White Rat, and Hop Father. All absolutely amazing.
Did a thing yesterday. I decided to make myself an advent calendar, and by make myself an advent calendar I mean buy a lot of beers.

Figured that if I want to properly seek my way into this industry then it’s important to have at least tried a lot of Britain’s foundational beers.

Joining in on my first @boakandbailey.bsky.social Session with #144 - Best Beer You Can Drink At Home Right Now.

Hoping that I didn’t skirt the rules too much but I enjoyed it! If you want to, check it out here - spoiler, it’s not Sonoma (sorry Sonoma): www.notmyfirstdraught.co.uk/blog/thesess...

Working at The Old Shoe was my first encounter with craft beer. Well, any beer.

I’d try what we had on tap and realised that this stuff is bloody good. But Sonoma always stood out, so much so it inspired me to get into craft beer. Happy ten years to a belter of a pint. @trackbrewingco.bsky.social

Look what’s turned up on my doorstep this morning! Going to take a trip to a bottle shop to find something nice to drink whilst I read it this evening. Thank you @katiematherkm.bsky.social and @pelliclemag.com - I hope that this can be the first of many for you!

The power of the Swan & Railway only increases with every visit. I’ve not been everywhere but this has to be one of the very best. Some might say this place is worth the admission fee to Wigan alone. True destination pub status

When the PM visits the White House next week, he must challenge Trump on his Ukraine lies in the strongest possible terms.

It's alarming to see the leader of the free world parroting Putin's propaganda. Trump spoke in Mar-a-Lago but his words could have been written in Moscow.
