A year ago today, we lost a very dear friend and colleague in Tony Lloyd MP.

@triciaayr.bsky.social and I were very grateful to have been given the opportunity to write this obituary for Tribune Magazine at the time 👇

The destructive 2 child cap on universal credit has been scrapped 👏

Well done Rachel Reeves and to all who campaigned hard on this. Absolutely the right thing for a Labour Government to do. Will benefit 1.6 million children, and lifts c.500,000 children out of poverty #Budget2025

I have co-signed a cross party letter calling on the Chancellor to make this year's Budget a turning point. Our tax system asks too much of working people and too little of extreme wealth. [1/2]

I spoke in Parliament about global tax justice. Multinationals shifting billions through tax havens deprive our hospitals, schools and care services of tens of billions every year. It’s time for transparency, fairness and change.

Bloody good question!!
Why is a Labour Home Secretary perpetuating this myth in The Sun?

Asylum applications in the UK are significantly below the average for all European countries. The only person helped by spreading this falsehood is Nigel Farage

We’ve lost 260,000 social rented homes in the last decade. If we’re serious about ending homelessness, Councils need the power, funding and freedom to build social homes at scale, homes at true social rent, not unaffordable “affordable” rents.

Wealth taxes are not only sensible – they are urgently needed. They are the key to unlocking the funds required to build an NHS fit for the future, deliver schools that inspire, create green jobs, & ensure no child grows up in poverty.

Pleased to co-sign this letter urging the Prime Minister to scrap the cruel two-child benefit cap. The Poverty Strategy Commission shows its abolition would lift millions out of poverty. Families should not be punished for their circumstances.

“Our strength lies not in enforced uniformity of Party doctrine. It is based on tolerance, and argument, on the ferment of political ideas and political passion—not regimentation. I do not want to lead a Party of zombies.” - Prime Minister Harold Wilson, 1975.

Just saying.

I spoke to The Guardian’s Kiran Stacey on the Politics Weekly UK podcast about the Universal Credit & PIP Bill. 100+ MPs now oppose it. These cuts could push 400,000 more into poverty—incl. 50,000 children. We must scrap them.

Sadly the UC & PIP Bill as it stands will still impose brutal cuts, pushing huge numbers of people who desperately need support into poverty.

It is clear that the Bill must be withdrawn. 👇
