I’ve been working on a few lovely creative projects recently in my spare time. The first starts to go live this evening, very much a scrappy slow burn social and marketing project. Will be interesting to see if we find the right audience!

Really enjoying the new podcast Talk Musicals To Me by @carolinesheen.bsky.social … just listened to a great interview with Adam Guettel who’s a superb guest. https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/talk-musicals-to-me/id1809880953?i=1000704450468

Remember, Friday at 8am, the UK Eurovision act will be revealed. I need a distraction of joy amidst the world today.

I’m number 330,242 in the queue for Elton John and Brandi Carlile tickets at the palladium. So… I stand a chance? 😂🤦‍♂️

A few black & white photos of the great Norwegian rock band SPAN playing their final show at the o2 Islington Academy, London last year

Over the weekend caught two amazing films. September 5 is truly gripping, the setup means it could also work as a phenomenal stage play. The Seed of a Sacred Fig is bold and brave, a must see. I did wonder if its runtime would be off putting, but it never outstays its welcome and is entirely vital.

Really enjoyed hearing Tom Kitt & Brian Yorkey’s if/then at the staged concert earlier this week. A joy to hear the full score and book for the first time. I wasn’t quite as keen on the staging in truth… but to hear the music live, with that cast, pure wow.

Testing @flashes.blue beta… so here’s a photo of my new local cinema. Posted with filter in the Flashes app.

Just as I was again grumbling about ticket prices… there’s now a big music fan survey that will lead directly into government committees. Topics range from how you choose shows, to food, merch & of course ticketing

Worth the time to fill in, I’d say for all live event fans https://musicfansvoice.uk

If I paid the going rate of minimum £60 for every show I wanted to see in a year, I’d be broke.

It just encourages the stay at home behaviour for many, making regular access to culture an elite activity.

Priced out of yet another musician’s upcoming shows, this time in a theatre. Handful of tickets at the back for £25 all gone along with most £55 ones by the time I reached the sale page. Prices increased through to £120.

The fact these shows sell out simply encourages the pricing structure.

Some of you may have read about the situation regarding our new landlord wishing to add a new redevelopment break clause, with only 6 months notice to our lease.

For now, we're simply asking you all to share & sign the petition below;

As for apps that use the protocol.

I’m mainly using @skeetsapp.com for the classic Twitter feel and experience.

@skylight.social is in beta testing and is essentially TikTok using the Bluesky feed. It has much promise!

And there are Instagram style clones incoming. All exciting.

Bluesky newbies… sure, it’s like old twitter, but there’s a lot you can do with the app and third party apps that use the protocol it’s built on. And it’s all growing!

Good starter guides are everywhere, this one by wired is especially good https://www.wired.com/story/how-to-get-started-on-bluesky/

Quiet weekend away from the world to rest, recharge and enjoy silly trash, like the masked singer on tv. If anyone cares, my current guesses are Wolf - Donny Osmand, Pufferfish - Samantha Barks, Dressed Crab - Gregory Porter.
