Everyone is dunking on poor Noah Smith for getting lost and frustrated at Heathrow Airport and blaming him, which is victim-blaming and I am quite disappointed in all of you. Put the blame squarely where it belongs: on whoever failed to pin his name and destination to his sweater-vest.

spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

I love songs in odd time signatures, so question: What (relatively) non-obscure songs can you think of that are in 5?

There's the obvious Take Five (String Cheese Incident plays a nice version), but otherwise:

Living in the Past - Jethro Tull
Playin' in the Band - Grateful Dead

Others?

I'm an adult in my 30s.

I should be able to go to the liquor store, or the beer/wine section at a grocery store, & purchase THC drinks.

I'm not against regulation. A cap of 10-15mg, per serving, would be fine with me, for example.

A ban like what they are imposing is horrific though

I truly don’t know how you look at the past week and THEN decide THIS is an appropriate — let alone the right — response.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

Dems: We stood up to the MAGA GOP and were rewarded with broad and startling electoral victories.

Also Dems: Okay well mission accomplished. Back to being spineless sock puppets.

Mamdani is going to implement Samba law. Every New Yorker will be required to become fans of Brazil's national soccer team.

The culture shock for Mets, Knicks, and Jets fans rooting for a team that actually wins sometimes will be devastating.
Mamdani is going to implement Sriracha law. Everyone will have to slather hot sauce on their scrambled eggs
Mamdani is going to implement My Sharona law. Everyone will have to create songs with undeniable rock beats.

Prince loved to remind people that he wrote this song while looking in the mirror:

You're so good, baby there ain't nobody better
So you should never, ever go by the letter
You're so cool, everything you do is success
Make the rules — then break them all 'cause you are the best

mamdani is gonna implement shandalar law. if you want to add new cards to your deck, you have to wander the map and look for random wizard duels
Mamdani gonna implement Shaaloani law. All disputes settled via shootout duels using non-lethal rounds with all the authenticity of a spaghetti western directed by Japanese anime enthusiasts.

(This is a timely Final Fantasy XIV reference)
Mamdani is going to implement Shannara law. Everything will be extremely derivative of Tolkien and predictable.
