Interested in building excellent software engineering organizations. Also in event-driven architecture, highly available and scalable systems, domain-driven design, and the intersection of architecture and organization.

On first sight, this article might seem like another example of slapping an AI sticker on a product to keep it interesting. But in this case, it makes sense. For agentic AI systems, event-driven architecture is still relevant.

Beware the distributed monolith: Why Agentic AI needs Event-Driven Architecture to avoid a repeat of the microservices disaster - TNGlobal
EDA for agentic AI systems is crucial because it promotes loose coupling, allowing agents to operate independently and communicate asynchronously. This approach prevents the same architectural pitfall...

The OOP in Munich was the first conference I ever attended as a junior dev. So I’m very excited to be back 25 years later, for OOP 2026, to speak about event-driven architecture.

My KanDDDinsky talk this year: less fundamental than my usual talks. More: what works well, and what doesn’t. Patterns, lessons, and maybe a few true stories.

The line-up is amazing, and I’m humbled to be part of it. Hope to see you there!

Coding with AI feels like teaching. You still need to learn before you can teach. Deep understanding of the domain and software quality still matters. But not everyone who enjoys coding will enjoy instructing a machine. It’s a different kind of creativity.

Using a relational model in an Event-Driven Architecture? You probably know the transactional outbox pattern.
Adding it to the Awesome Event-Driven Architecture list soon.

Always wanted this to be interactive so I could solve the cube in 2D. Everyone’s using AI code assistants now, so I had Claude build a first version. It’s rough - no tests yet - but already fun to play with (for me, anyway): www.huehnken.de/games/circle...

What I like about CTO Craft: it’s more than conferences, they’re building a community, with Slack and in-person mixers. I haven’t been to one yet, but there’s one in Hamburg next week. Looking forward to it! If you're a CTO or senior tech leader, maybe see you there?

I said I expected to be inspired, and Fast Flow Conf did not disappoint. Great talks all around, kudos to the speakers.
And the closing keynote hitting a point for me as well, moving beyond "enabling team" for architecture. Great day. Also fantastic venue and organization!

In "Foundations of Scalable Systems", Ian Gorton writes, among other things, about relational databases and how it's not uncommon to apply denormalization. Or well, he meant to, but on page 196 they printed something else.. which I'm sorry to hear 😀
