The National Weather Service Presents Weather 101. The classes this week are Monday Dec 1 at 8pm ET (Subject: tsunamis), Tuesday Dec 2 at 8pm ET (Subject: satellites), Wednesday Dec 3 at 8pm ET (Subject: Quasi-Linear Convective Systems), Thursday Dec 4 at 11am ET (Subject: Observations in 3D), and Friday Dec 5 at 11am ET (Subject: Monsoons). To register and for a full list of classes, visit weather.gov/ohx/weather101. These online classes are free and open to people of all ages. Each class is hosted by a NWS meteorologist. Classes run 1 hour or less and including a Q&A session.

Are you prepared for the upcoming polar plunge? As temperatures drop, remember to protect the 4 P’s: People, pets, pipes, and plants. weather.gov/safety/cold
"Protect People, Pets, Pipes, & Plants from cold weather," image provides cold weather safety tips organized under four categories, each with an image: People: Image of a smiling family (two adults, one child) hugging. Tips: Minimize time outdoors. Prepare for power outages. Check on elderly & other vulnerable people. Pets: Image of a border collie and a cat, both looking directly at the camera. Tips: Keep pets warm, dry & indoors as much as possible. Ensure their food & water doesn't freeze. Limit outside time & keep them bundled up. Pipes: Image of metal pipes with a red valve in a cloud of steam. Tips: Insulate pipes if possible. Open up sink cabinets to expose pipes to heated air. Disconnect hoses & turn off water to sprinklers. Plants: Image of green potted plants with pink flowers and gardening tools. Tips: Know their temperature thresholds. If possible, cover them before the cold weather sets in to help retain some heat.
