Miraculously I still have 10 fig seedlings from my experiment, including the 1 grown from a dried fig seed. They have started to smell of fig, which is amazing, so finally potted them out. Not sure what to do with 10 fig trees if they all survive ... experimental archaeology gone wild 😜

This is absolutely disgusting yet utterly predicted by everyone who shouted loudly that violence in Gaza has been about ethnic cleansing & invasion, not 'stopping Hamas'. This is exactly how communities are pushed to support violent extremists, a last resort as the only way to fight back.
Video shows Israeli soldiers forcibly expelling Palestinian families from their homes before carrying out demolitions in Khirbet al-Dabaa village in Masafer Yatta, occupied West Bank.

Great fun bringing my research with Milica Rajić on the truths about the fig trees growing in Sheffield on the River Don. Introduced the international audience to the wonders of British fig roll biscuits too. A bit more work to do on early pre-Industrial fig trees in Sheffield before publication.

Obsessed (and slightly distracted) by the beautiful building hosting our sessions in the Archaeology Museum in Lisbon.

Day 2 of @postmedarch.bsky.social conference in Lisbon, hosted by the wonderful Maritime and Archaeology museums. Our maritime session starts the day in the maritime museum exhibition hall. Speakers themselves becoming exhibits amongst the boats for passing tours!

Ugh! I am SO fed up with people hassling me for stuff day/weeks before deadlines!!!
Deadline are 'do by' dates. They will be done. And students, do not submit at the deadline and expect me to return it before the deadline for feedback.
Stop hassling meeeeeeee!!!!!!!
Is this an adhd thing?

Strange the Serbian student protests aren't being more widely discussed in the UK/English language press. Wonder why that is ...
"What has been happening in Serbia... is a historic development worth paying attention to, given that it comes against the backdrop of Europe-wide backsliding on democracy and a crisis of the political establishment."

#AJOpinion by Saša Savanović ⤵️
The protests in Serbia are historic, the world shouldn’t ignore them
Amid democratic backsliding across Europe, Serbian students have shown the way to reimagining democracy and governance.

Delighted to kick off our #LGBTQ+historymonth series with a sneak peek of a review of the fabulous Hollis Croft comic by Mili Rajic, my favourite pieces of post-med/historical archaeology work. 🏺
First post for our special #LGBTQ+HistoryMonth series comes from our member Susana Pacheco: 'Hollis Croft. A Matter of Time' by Mili Rajic and illustrated by Dave Howarth is an archaeological comic set in Victorian #Sheffield, using historical and material evidence to explore LGBTQ+ 1/4

So. Much. Fun
Spend the day at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet with the blacksmith making a knife Crocodile Dundee would be proud of. Started with a rectangle of high carbon steel. Hit it a lot. Ground it a lot. Hard work. Wrists are a bit wrecked. But absolutely brilliant! And it is gorgeous.

This is frightening to see and puts archaeology and heritage studies firmly in the firing line.
🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

This week my employer of 17 years English Heritage announced 200 jobs lost, and my Alma mater Cardiff Uni announced 400 jobs lost. The planning system that protects our heritage and provides thousands of archaeology jobs is at risk, and Higher Education is in free fall more generally #ThisIsFine

One day I won't be doing the last of my marking at 11pm the night before the deadline. Tonight is not that day, sadly.
Fuelled by sugar and chocolate.

Yeah, I could be in a Monday morning work meeting, or I could be enjoying a walk along Manchester's queer canal on my way to a day long tattoo appointment.

Hi! I am back after 3 weeks ill in bed, so a belated happy Christmas, Hanukkah, & new year! I was gutted to miss SHA in New Orleans, but really not well enough to travel. My long Covid has been reactivated, so I'll be easing back to work, life, & exercise. Will keep you posted.
