I have a Word doc titled "Hack the Planet?" just for when I reach a critical mass of things like this to write about.
#OnThisDay in 1981, Simon & Simon aired “Trapdoors”—likely the first non–sci-fi depiction of computer hacking on US TV. 💻📞
Teen Robbie Rist uses an Apple II + acoustic modem to access a bank—2 years before “hacker” hit mainstream media.
A proto-Whiz Kids story from creator Phil DeGuere.

This holiday hot take comes to you from my expertise on the terrorizing of average people by HUAC, McCarthyism, and the Hollywood Blacklist. You can read more about it in my new book, Selling Out Santa:
My new & first book, Selling Out Santa, is Open Access!

If you like what you read and can, please consider buying a copy for you and maybe one for a history/film lover at Christmas (it's 40% off)!

It'll likely be my only income in over 2 years once royalties pay next July, so please consider it!
Selling Out Santa
Christmas is not just a day or a frame of mind as Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) imparts in Miracle on 34 th Street (1947); Christmas is also a vehicle for national mythmaking as an idealising mirror for...

Boots Riley is great, and I can't wait to see what he does next. "Sorry to Bother You" was brilliant, and The Coup was tied for first in my "Top Five" (also brilliant) talk with @drsepinwall.bsky.social

A reminder again to watch this if you haven't already- even as someone who lived through this, it was shocking to revisit. It was so great to get to talk to Chris, and to try and figure out why those weird dog videos exist.

I have been dying for a playable out of a pack TCG for about as long as these games have existed and my team really nailed it.

The time of the Mari Lwyd approaches!
One of Wales` more unique festive customs sees a decorated horse`s skull carried from door to door, where its bearers challenge each household to engage in a duel of verse and wit for entry and, most importantly, beer!
